03-01-93 v TREE CONSERVATION BOARD
Minutes of March 1, 1993
The Board met for its regular meeting on Monday, March 1, in
the Commission Chambers of City Hall. Present were:
Hope Van Nortwick Thomas Frohne
Jim Pelkey John Weldon, Jr.
Staff: George Worley, Designee Carl Walker, Coordinator
Guests: Safa Mansouri, Peter Coalson, Mark Carroll
The meeting was called to order at 7:35 pm by John Weldon,
acting as Chairman in the absence of Carolyn Woods.
The first application for consideration was for tree removal
on Lot # 18, Tiffany by the Sea. Safa Mansouri was present
to represent the property owner.
It was mentioned that there was still some confusion as to
the marking of trees on site. It was agreed that the 25"
triple oak proposed for removal was dead, and some discussion
took place regarding the trees on the lot perimeter.
Tom Frohne made a motion to accept the plan as proposed and
the motion was seconded by Jim Pelkey. It passed by a unani-
mous vote.
Mr. Coalson, builder, and Mr. Carroll, property owner, were
in attendance for consideration of tree removal at Lot # 7,
Oceanwalk, Unit # 3. The trees, however, had already been
removed 2 - 3 weeks ago, as the builder advised he was not
aware of the Atlantic Beach Tree Ordinance and was under
the impression that once the Oceanwalk ARC approved the
plans, no other permitting was necessary prior to clearing
the lot. While the Board members agreed that the removal
was unintentional, they also agreed that a penalty for the
Ordinance violation should be accessed.
After discussion, a motion was made by Torn Frohne that ap-
proval be given the removal, with the provision that five (5)
hardwood trees with not less than 3" DBH each, be planted on
City property, at a location at the discretion of Mr. Worley.
In old business, the letter from Greg Christovich, General
Manager of Selva Marina Country Club, was reviewed. It was
agreed that the contents were in compliance with the request
made by the Board at the last Board meeting. Jim Pelkey
moved to accept the letter as written. Tom Frohne seconded
and the motion unanimously passed.
George Worley distributed a copy of the revision to the re-
moval application form which includes the tree markings on
the property as requested by the Board.
The minutes were read and a motion made by Hope Van Nortwick
to accept them as written; Tom Frohne seconded and the motion
carried unanimously.
With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:20 pm.
Respe fully submitted,
Joh e l don, Jr.
