Meeting Minutes
Wednesday, March 23, 2011
Adele Grage Cultural Center
6:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Meade Coplan, Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Hollie McMillan, and Jeff Wight
Liaison Timmy Johnson and Karen Kempf (recording). Excused: Tammy Lally. Absent: Carolyn McCarthy
Guests: Lisa Kamm, Brie Burkett (Teen Council Rep and President), Eric Pardee, Justin McCarthy and Dale
Hatfield.
1. Call to order - Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:02 p.m.
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes - The committee reviewed the February 22, 2011 minutes.
Cris moved, and Jolyn seconded the motion to approve the minutes as written. The
committee unanimously approved the minutes.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Mid -Week Market- Jeff reported that the market will stay at Bull Park
and hopes to keep it going throughout the year to January. He asked the
committee for an additional $250 for expenses. Meade made a motion
that $250 allocated to Lagniappe be moved to support the continuation
of Mid -week Market. Jolyn seconded the motion and it was
unanimously approved by the committee.
H. Songwriters' Concert-Timmy reported that 12 artists performed at the
last Songwriters' Concert with a full house of 65 plus in the audience.
Acoustic Nights starts the new season in Bull Park March 27.
iii. Arts in the Park - Jolyn reported that she ordered 4000 postcards for
mailing and distribution to artists and retail stores. Jeff and students
will label and stamp 2500 cards for USPS posting. She passed out both
large and smaller posters to the committee. Lynne and Lori will cover
Beaches' Town Center and Teen Council will help. Ads will be running in
the papers the week before the event. Dale and Sherri Beno will have
volunteers for the meeting on April 14, 6:30 at Adele Grage.
iv. Public Art- Jolyn reported that the first proposal for public art is from
local artist Mark Durham who has agreed to work with kids for a
Donner Park restroom project. The design concept was passed around
for the committee to see. Lowe's might donate the paint for a children
and park project.
v. MarshFest - Timmy and the MarshFest steering committee will meet in
April and will bring information to next committee meeting about
CARAC participation for the event.
vi. Civics Education - Meade introduced Justin McCarthy to the committee;
Justin will be working with Meade on the presentations. The committee
discussed location and starting date for the series. She will set a date
after reviewing the Adele Grage calendar and work on a press release
for a May first meeting.
vii. Teen Council - Lisa and Brie presented a dog day event for the Teen
Council. A budget for the event was reviewed by the committee and a
discussion followed. The Teen Council requested $750 from CARAC to
fund t- shirts, awards, and other items. They expected to return the
funds after the event based on registration fees and vendor applications.
Meade moved to approve the event and allocate $750 towards the event
in June. The motion was not seconded and the committee asked Brie to
revise the proposal and bring it back to the committee next month.
4. New Business / Announcements
a. Timmy asked the committee to be prepared to discuss the upcoming Budget
year 2011 -2012 at the next meeting.
b. Dale Hatfield reported that Carolyn is doing a great job with the afterschool
program art projects at Donner and Jordan. He would like to see more CARAC
members show up and help Carolyn with the projects and get more
involvement with the community and events in Mayport Corridor.
c. Hollie will talk to Timmy about some of her ideas for CARAC projects.
