CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH
Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, June 28, 2011
Adele Grage Cultural Center
6:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Hollie Stephens, Jeff Wight
with Timmy Johnson (City liaison) and Karen Kempf (recording).
Excused: Carolyn McCarthy, Lynne Roskein, Meade Coplan. Guest: Wanda Wilson Martin
1. Call to order - The Chair called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes - Cris motioned to accept the May 24, 2011 minutes as
written; Tammy seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Mid -Week Market- Jeff reported that he has 8 rotating musicians who
play each week and 4 regular vendors.
ii. Songwriters' & Acoustic Night - Songwriters' Concert and Acoustic was
full in the theater last month. Acoustic will be out in Bull Park again
with good weather.
iii. Public Art- Jolyn reported that the flower mural on the Donner Park
restroom was successfully completed this month. Three locations are
available to match with painters so please let artists know to send in
recommendations for artwork.
iv. Teen Council -Timmy reported that the Teen Council is not meeting
over summer. The "Chess Mania" was postponed and they hope to have
better sign -ups in the fall.
v. Civics at the Beaches - Timmy reported that the Civics program was
cancelled. Did not have 25 people signed up.
vi. Arts in the Park survey - Jolyn passed out a summary of the artists
survey. The committee discussed several of the recommendations,
including informing public about what artists will be at the festival.
Overall, the survey from artists reported a strong appreciation for the
event and wanting to return again next year.
4. New Business
a. Budget 2011 -12 - Timmy will let the committee know when the budget is made
public.
5. Other Agenda Items /Announcements
a. Next meeting - Tuesday, July 26, 2011
b. The Committee recognized outgoing CARAC member Meade Coplan for her
work for the committee and Atlantic Beach the past two years.
6. Adjournment -. With no further business, the committee adjourned the meeting at 6:32
pm.
