Minutes- Neighborhood Chat May 3, 2006NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR BEACHSIDE CHAT MEETING HELD AT JORDAN ON Vv'EDNESDAY, MAY 3, 2006 AT 7:00 PM. PRESENT: Donald M. Wolfson, Mayor Jamie Fletcher, Commissioner Donna L. Bussey, City Clerk Twelve Atlantic Beach Citizens The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Mayor Wolfson. He explained the purpose of the meeting and expressed his intent to hold meetings quarterly at the same locations but to have the commissioners rotate to the different meeting locations. He introduced himself and explained the ciby's Form of Government. He explained the City Commissioners" toles and the city's department structure. Mayor Wolfson introduced Commissioner Fletcher and he explained his experience on the Commission. City Clerk Bussey was introduced. She explained the process of the sign - in sheets and comment cards and that, in many cases, follow-up of these meetings would be necessary and, therefore, the information from the sign -in sheet and/or comment cards would be utilized and kept on file. Major concerns raised by residents were: • Drug activity and gun violence is present. in Jordan area and in area NVest of Mgyport Read • Police has not been responding well to non -emergency calls • Emergency response time is too slow Speeding is an issue throughout the area Not enough recreation of • Not enough parking available • Excessive traffic and speeding • Noise nuisances throughout streets from loud automobile radios Excessive stray cats and dogs • No representation forwvst of Seminole Road Drainage problems on Donner Road • Jordan/Donner area not treated the same as the rest of the city Lighting at night Not enough sidewalks • Poor roads ,xi dths; Excessive amounts of large commercial vehicles cutting through the neighborhood • Excessively high grass and weeds on properties in a= • Recyclables are not always picked up Prostitution, crack houses, multi -family and non -related residents living in Singleton Trailer Park • Rocks in Jordan Park driveway are being throw by children and are unsteady Page 1 of 2 NEIGHBOR TO NEIGHBOR. MAY 3a 2006 AT 7:00 PM. to walk on Requests: Make the neighborhoods safer for everyone More effort needed to stop drug trafficking Maintain affordable housing at the beaches Enforce noise ordinance on highways Need police presence and police outreach Install more lights throughout neighborhood Install "Drug Free Zone" and "Children at Play" signs in -various areas Install speed bumps to help with speeding Widen the narrow roads • Need sidewalks on Ardelia Road, Francis Avenue and Jordan Street Warn owners regarding weed abatement and illegal dumping Quicker response to emergency and non -emergency calls • Better communication 91 around ImproVe the parks Improve/maintain the ditches Improve drainage Trap/eliminate stray animals • Pave the driveways at Jordan Park and Habitat with something other than a District Representation Other eomments made: Questioned why Atlantic Beach adopted more stringent guidelines than the St Johns Water Management concerning swimming pools (pervious structures) Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 pm.
