Meeting Minutes
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
Adele Grage Cultural Center
6:00 p.m.
Present: Lori Gaglione (chair), Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Lynne Roskein, Wanda
Wilson Martin, Jeff Wight, Timmy Johnson (City liaison), Karen Kempf (recording). Excused: Hollie
Stephens. Resigned: Carolyn McCarthy. Guest: Max Jaeger (Beaches Leader)
1. Call to order - Chair Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.
2. Approval of Meeting Minutes - The committee reviewed the September 27, 2011 minutes.
Tammy moved and Jolyn seconded that the minutes be approved as written. The minutes
were unanimously approved.
3. Ongoing Business
a. Events, Updates, Reports
i. Mid -Week Market- Jeff reported that the mid -week market is going well
and believes that about 100 people pass through in the afternoon. New
hours of 3 -6 start in November. One spot is open for a musician.
ii. Songwriters & Acoustic Night - Timmy reported that Songwriters had a
full house again and that the last Acoustic Night for the season is Oct. 30
evening. New dates for the concerts will be posted on facebook.
iii. Public Art- Jolyn reported that there is a lot of interest from artists but
so far, only Fleet Landing has proposed a site with artwork. Jolyn
wanted the committee to approve new sites to take to the commission.
Tammy moved for the committee to propose the lift station at Camellia
(near Tideviews) and the trash can screen at the 19th Street access.
Wanda seconded the motions and the committee with a 5/2 vote
approved those two sites to go to the commission for review. The
committee tabled the other locations until Timmy and Jolyn contact the
business owners (Radio Shack & Mayport Rd) for permission to paint
buildings. Then the committee will take all approved locations to City
Commission at the same time.
Jolyn also reported that Mayport Middle and Douglas Anderson students
may also get involved in public art projects.
iv. Arts in the Park- Jolyn reported that 34 applications have been received.
The application fee goes up to $75 at the end of October. Jolyn has all
the musicians lined up. Madelyn Levin will handle food vendors;
applications have not gone out yet.
v. Tennis Fall Championship - Lori said that applications must be received
now for the tournament. Publix will provide food. Contact Carolyn
Woods for donation of prize from Selva Marina.
vi. Artisans' Faire - Lynne asked Jolyn and Jeff to pour at the wine tasting.
Posters for the event need to be distributed by email through committee
members and artists. Event is posted on facebook and the city events
pages. The event will be advertised in the Beaches Leader and The
Times - Union.
vii. Marshfest - Lori gave an update on the MarshFest and asked for
volunteers to sell t- shirts at the event. Tammy and Lori will sell shirts
from 12 -3 pm and Tammy and Jeff from 10 am -12 noon.
4. New Business
a. Kudos and thank you to Cris, Jeff, Hollie, and for their help at the Campout and
Wanda for the Art Walk!
b. Committee members are asked to sign -up for the Notify Me and the facebook
page. Tell family and friends.
5. Other Agenda Items /Announcements
a. Next meeting - Tuesday, December 6, 2011, 6 pm, Adele Grage
b. The committee is not sponsoring the sing -along this year.
6. Adjournment - with no further business, Lynne moved and Tammy seconded the motion
to adjoin the meeting. The meeting was adjourned at 6:35 pm.
