YOU HAVE APPLIED FOR A PERMIT UNDER AN EXEMPTION TO THE LAW. The exemption allows you as the owner of your property,to act as your own contractor even through you do not have a license. You must supervise the construction Yourself You may build or improve a one-family or two-family residence or a farm outbuilding. You may also build or improve a commercial building at a cost of$25,000 or less. The building must be for your own use and occupancy. It may not be built for sale or lease. If you sell or lease more than one building you have built yourself within one(1)year after the construction is complete,the law will presume that you built it for sale or lease,which is a violation of this exemption. You may not hire an un-licensed person as your contractor. Your construction must be done according to building codes and zoning regulations. It is your responsibility to make sure that the people employed by you have licenses required by state law and by county_or municipal licensing ordinances. In addition, the owner must supervise construction and becomes liable and responsible for the employees he/she hires. This responsibility includes,but may not be limited to: 1. Workers Compensation, for workers injured on the job. 2. Social Security Tax must be deducted from employee's wages and matched with owner's funds. 3. Federal Withholding. Not only does the tree prevent access to the rear of the property, it will interfere with the roofline as the tree leans to the south directly into the roof of the proposed addition. I had Davey Big Tree evaluate the tree to determine if it would be feasible to move the tree to the front of the property or somewhere else. Their opinion was that there is a significant risk of severely damaging if not toppling the adjacent tree unless the tree were hand dug and moved with equipment other than that normally used. The cost of this would be prohibitive considering that the purchase and transplanting of new palms costs about as much as moving an existing tree with their normal equipment. Although I hate to lose the tree, it just is not practical to save it in this situation.
