The following describes the solutions for both problems. HEADER The header over the sliding glass door is 10' long and is currently sagging approximately 1"at the midspan. The header should be replaced with a (2)2x12 No.2 SYP with two cripples and three kings t each end. Replace the header in this sequence: a. Shore up one or both sides of the roof rafters before any demolition takes place. The rafters at the header's midspan may need to be jacked up to their original elevation. b. Remove the existing header and replace with the prescribed 2x12s. c. Fasten the header with the attached Typical Header Framing Detail (Attachment A) d. Only after the new header is completely installed may the temporary shoring be removed. CARPORT The carport on the above referenced structure is drifting and starting to pull away from the residence due to four structural steel pipe columns having been removed approximately three decades ago to accommodate a storage area and a wider parking space. The storage area's South wall is sufficient to support the Southern-most carport beam. However, the next beam North requires the steel columns to be replaced. Replace the columns in this sequence: a. Jack and shore up the carport beams prior to column installation. b. Install two(2)2.5"dia steel pipe columns on the subject carport beam. See Attachment B for all connections. c. Only after the new columns are completely installed may the temporary shoring be removed. Please call if you have any other questions.
