7-24-12 , 0 An fief 'P ".4013 CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH Meeting Minutes Tuesday, July 24, 2012 Adele Grage Cultural Center 6:00 p.m. Present: Chair Lori Gaglione, Lynne Roskein, Cris Garrard, Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Wanda Martin, Jay Shoots with Timmy Johnson (City liaison) and Karen Kempf (recording). Absent: Hollie Stephens, Jeff Wight Visitors: Brittany Norris, Chris Himel, Dezmond Waters, and Genevieve Fletcher from Dutton Island Gardeners. 1. Call to order - Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm. 2. Approval of Meeting Minutes - The committee reviewed the June 26, 2012 minutes. Tammy moved to accept the minutes as written and Jolyn seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved. 3. Ongoing Business a. Events, Updates, Reports i. The DIG representatives were introduced to the committee. Brittany gave some background information and spoke on how the DIG organization would like to take over the market from Jeff Wight and CARAC. They would like to attract new vendors and increase the variety of goods. They would also like to market the market with better advertising, newsletter, and internet. They asked for the CARAC members to support their proposal to the City Commission for transfer of the market from CARAC to DIG. After discussion, Lori motioned that the committee relinquish control of the Wednesday Midweek Market. Jay seconded the motion and was unanimously approved. Lori motioned that the committee recommend to the City Commission that the market be transferred to DIG's oversight. Tammy seconded the motion and it was unanimously approved by the committee. ii. Arts in the Park financial report- Jolyn reported that Arts in the Park expenses came in at the budgeted amount of $6500. Income from registration brought in over $5600. iii. Songwriters' & Acoustic Nights - Timmy reported that Songwriters had 75 attending at the July concert. Acoustic had over a hundred at Bull Park in June. iv. Public Art- Jolyn is still waiting for a response from Radio Shack regarding a mural on the street side of the building. Phillip Walker and Ginifer Brinkley are both interested in painting. v. Concert in the Park - Jolyn will put a proposal together and bring it to the committee. She needs sponsors for the event so there will be money to pay the bands. 4. New Business a. Holiday Artisans' Faire - Lynne announced that the Faire will be held together with the November 15 North Beaches Art Walk.. She wants to pay more attention to marketing this year. b. Jay would like to handle the art exhibits at Adele Grage. He thinks that sale of art can help raise funds for the committee. 5. Other Agenda Items /Announcements a. Next meeting - August 28, 2012 6. Adjournment - With no further business, Lynne motioned to adjourn the meeting and was seconded by Wanda.
