The City recently sent another letter to the owner notifying them of our ordinance prohibiting more than two unrelated
people living in one house.As you know, Mike Griffin took charge of Code Enforcement after Alex Sherrer retired. He
noted that the City recently received a complaint about the property and sent our new inspector to check it out. He
found that there are five unrelated people living at this address. Mike was unaware of the previous notice Alex
apparently sent in September or October. However, it is clear that Mr. Lane needs to comply with our Code or he will be
taken to the Code Board which can impose fines of up to$250/day for a first offence and up to$500/day thereafter.

I'm not sure if it is a citation. The letter is from code enforcement. It states a notice of violation. The letter
also requires me to take action within 45 days.
I spoke with my neighbors. The tenants do not seem to be causing any problems. One mentioned that there are
cars parked on the lawn, but there is lack of parking in the area.
It's a bit chiily up here. We are hoping for a white Christmas though.

Hello Mr. Fletcher,
I know it has been a few months since we spoke. I own a house at 342 Seminole Road. I
received a letter from the City of Atlantic Beach today stating that I am in violation of the
Single-Family Dwelling ordinance. While I was aware of this ordinance,my house was vacant
for several months. I tried in earnest to rent to a single family,but was unsuccessful. Since I
was getting behind on my mortgage, I advised the property manager to rent to a non-manager,
hence my current situation.

To recap, I had to move my family to Chicago last year for a job. This is temporary move. I did
not by this house as an investment property,but as a home. I plan on returning next year,but if I
can't work something out with the city I may not have a home to return to. Please let me know
what my options are.

Thank you Mr. Fletcher. My address is 342 Seminole Road. Before I knew about the ordinance,
I had a few college students renting my house. They have since moved out. I don't believe there
were any complaints,but my property management company would know more. Let me know
what you can do.

To the elected officials of Atlantic Beach:
This email is in regards to the Atlantic Beach Ordinance which states
that no more than two unrelated people can live in one house at the same
time. I am a home owner in Atlantic Beach. Due to the current economic
climate, I needed to move to Chicago temporarily for work. In order to
keep making payments on my home, I am forced to rent my house. It has
become increasingly difficult to rent a four bedroom house to a single
family at a rental price that will enable me to keep making my mortgage
payments. I have had to turn down several interested parties that were
either college students or members of the military because they were a
group three or more.
Now 1 understand why this ordinance is in place: to prevent this
scenario where a group of"rowdy college kids"or"uncontrollable navy
men and women"disrupt this quiet beach town. There are other(noise)
ordinances in the Atlantic Beach to curb such behavior. I feel as a
home owner, if I am willing to rent my house in order to make ends meet,
I should have the right to rent to whomever I want. You are passing
judgment on tenants for my property without giving them a chance.
My family and I are planning to move back in the next few years. If I
am unable to rent my house for the time being, I fear I will not have a
home when I return. I am requesting either a temporary waiver or a
change to this ordinance to help me to keep my house.
