The elm is appox. 30" dbh, 50' tall, with a 55' crown spread. This tree is fully mature and is cycling into the final stages of its life. This is evidenced by the thinning of the crown and the obvious heart rot in the old limb stubs that are clearly visible on the main truck. The elm tree will probably stand for several years to come, but as time goes by it will become weaker. Although this tree is stable, it is certainly a candidate for removal. The maple tree is also in an advanced state of maturity. The crown of the tree is gone (probably blown off in a high wind) and the base of the tree is completely hollow. This tree is also a candidate for removal. Perhaps removal of these older trees and the replacement with young specimens that would have a longer life span would be an asset to the property.
