2-26-13 .4. CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH Meeting Minutes Tuesday, February 26, 2013 Adele Grage Cultural Center 6:00 p.m. Present: Lori Gaglione, Cris Garrard, Tammy Lally,Lynne Roskein, Hollie Stephens, Wanda Martin, and Jeff Wright, Timmy Johnson(City Liaison)and Della Giovanni(recording). Excused: Jolyn Johnson 1. Call to order- Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. 2. Approval of Meeting Minutes-The committee reviewed the minutes of December 4, 2012 (no minutes from January due to lack of quorum). Tammy moved to accept the minutes as written, Cris seconded the motion. The minutes were unanimously approved. 3. Ongoing Business a. Fletcher High School fundraising committee was present for voting of uniform donation. Voting did not take place in January due to lack of quorum. Committee discussed ideas to help school raise money i. Lynne raised question of how many bids were received before deciding to go with present company. School committee replied that they received several bids. ii. Tammy motioned for donation of$500; Lynne motioned for$1,000 donation. Advised by Lori that$1,000 is remaining balance in discretionary account. Jeff shared that he was uncomfortable leaving account empty in case something else is brought to the committee between now and September. Stated he was alright with $500 donation. Lori agreed with Jeff. Cris made a point that the committee gives funds to the elementary schools,so why not the high school that most kids in this community will go to? Motioned for$500 donation, committee voted 6-1 in favor. Fletcher High School Band needs donations by end of March in order to place order in time for next school year. 4. Events,Updates, Reports i. Mid-Week Market-Timmy reported the Market is going well. Not as many people but new vendors are being welcomed. ii. Songwriters' Concert-Timmy reported that Mike Shackelford reports that they have had good turn outs,they may be in process of making a CD. Acoustic Nights begin March 24. iii. Public Art-Timmy reported that we have not heard back from Radio Shack building owner; however a temporary mural was approved by someone for bicycle safety. It will be researched to find out how they got approval and from whom. iv. Arts in the Park-Timmy Johnson revealed this year's poster to the committee. Concern was raised since the committee unanimously did not approve of the poster and had not been presented additional art(as requested previously) to vote on for final print. Lori will call present artist, Philip Walker,to request additional art to be voted upon by March 7. Events for the day were discussed, Committee was asked to volunteer for event. v. MarshFest 2013- Fun Run idea to tie in with MarshFest. At first committee was opposed,after Jeff presented idea of bringing more people out and have early run through trails and the island, including involving 1st Place Sports for marketing, committee was alright with idea. Further discussion will take place between Jeff and Timmy after decision of 1st Place Sports is reached. 1. Art Exhibit at MarshFest- idea was declined due to keeping the event to be nature minded, not making it into a small AITP. 2. Suggested that better food vendors are used, need more volunteers,and suggested guided tours around island 5. New Business a. Easter Egg Hunt-Wanda suggested to have photos taken with the bunny, agreed by Lori and Tammy. 6. Other Agenda Items/Announcements a. Upcoming Events -Acoustic Nights begins March 24 b. Next meeting-Tuesday,March 26,2013, 6 p.m., Adele Grage 7. Adjournment-With no further business, Lori moved to adjourn the meeting.
