RE: Notification of right-of-way parking violation at—735 Bonita Road
Dear Ms. Peters:
A strategic priority of the City has been to enhance and improve the roadways and thoroughfares
within the City with the goal of encouraging redevelopment and reinvestment in neighborhoods
and commercial areas. Commercial areas will only be as strong and vibrant as the neighborhoods
that support our community businesses. The condition and attractiveness of roadways is a critical
component to the perception of the quality of a community, which translates into strong and stable
property values and desirable high quality places to live. Curb appeal is judged beginning at the
street edge.
Royal Palms has been a major focus of City commitment for the past few years, and the efforts of
residents and the City have paid off in a big way. The appearance and aesthetics of Royal Palms
has improved dramatically over the past two years, which no doubt will mean real increases in
property values as the housing market rebounds.
Royal Palms does not suffer significant deterioration and blight, but there are too many locations
that have a tired and unkempt appearance mostly because of the way the street edges look.
Continuous parking along the right-of-way makes it impossible to maintain grass and landscaping
and street edges become a dirt, sand and weed strewn mess. The City's zoning regulations have
long contained the following provision.
Sec. 24-161. Off-Street Parking and Loading.
Parking for residential uses shall be located within paved or stabilized driveways,
private Garages or carports or such areas intended for the day-to-day parking of
vehicles. Vehicles shall not be routinely parked within grassed or landscaped
areas of a residential Lot or on grassed or landscaped portions of public Right-of-
ways adjacent to the Lot.
If your property is rented please notify your renters to cease from using the right-of-way for
parking and require that they park their vehicles in compliance with the above provision. You may
call me at 247-5813 with any questions or to discuss options.
