BACKGROUND: Polymers are chemical s used in wastewater treatment plants to
neutralize electrica l charges on s ludge particles. This helps the soli ds
clump together to thicken and dewater before disposal at the landfil l.
Each polymer manufacturer develops and markets several
proprietary form ul as . Wastewater treatment plants are biological system s
that have varied reactions to th ese polymers . The polymer manu facture rs
cond u ct field tests at t he plant to demonstrate that th e product works.
The low bidder meeting all required specifications and document
s ubmittal was Fort Bend Services at a pri ce of $1 .10 per pound. Fort
Bend Services is our current vendor.
BUDGET: Polymer is budgeted in the Wastewater Treatment account number 410-
5508-535-5200 in the amount of $30 ,000 for FY 2016
RECOMMENDATION : Approve th e awa rd of Bid No . 1516-02 -Annual Contract for
Polymer to Fort Bend Servic es at a cost of $1.10 p er pound .
