The screws are required to protrude 1/4"through the roof sheathing to be rated and the screws in question do not. We cannot approve this roof. There are two other issues: 1) There is a question about this metal roofing installed over existing shingles. 2) The product approval substrate description states"Must be designed in accordance w/ Florida Building Code 2014. I suggest that you contact the manufacturer and ask them how to resolve these issues. To approve this roof,we need three things: 1) Testing/engineering that the metal roof complies with the FBC and Product Approval requirements. 2) Documentation that this product can be installed over existing shingles and what installation details are required. 3) Documentation that the roof sheathing is nailed to the 2014 FBC standards. We have notified the home owner of these issues. The testing was performed to determine the ultimate pullout strength of each fastener from the OSB. The testing was performed at the request of Mr. Kevin C. Martin of Martin Engineering, LLC. TEST PROCEDURE & SET-UP To perform the load testing on each fastener, a load frame was set-up on the roof, and a calibrated load cell was set-up over the fastener. Tests 1-3 were loaded by hand. Tests 4-6 were loaded using a pump and jack assembly. The fastener was loaded until failure occurred. The maximum load achieved was observed and recorded for each fastener. We cannot approve the final inspection of the new roof at 2059 Selva Marina Drive for the following reasons. Please refer to the email below, dated 6/23/16, for background and numbering of issues. 1. The pullout test report does not indicate the location (address)of the test, the location of the fasteners tested, the test method used, or the credentials of the testing company. The Building Department should have been notified to witness the test. Please submit a professional test report, providing all information of the test procedure and signed off and accepting the test report as part of his calculations. The Engineer's shop stamp on the test report and reference to the test report in the calculations is the usual practice. Please reference the limited embedment in the engineering calculations. Zone 3 in the engineering calculations indicates a screw spacing of 5.125 inches. We understand that a screw spacing 10 inches was used. Please clarify. 2. Please provide documentation that this product can be installed over existing shingles and what installation details are required. 3. Documentation that the roof sheathing is nailed to the 2014 FBC standards. Please address the above three issues. Sincerely, • Dan Arlington, CBO Previous email dated 6/23/16: Alan, We heard back from the product approval engineer regarding the screw penetration on the referenced metal roof. The screws are required to protrude%" through the roof sheathing to be rated and the screws in question do not. To approve this roof, we need three things: 1) Testing/engineering that the metal roof complies with the FBC and Product Approval requirements. 2) Documentation that this product can be installed over existing shingles and what installation details are required. 3) Documentation that the roof sheathing is nailed to the 2014 FBC standards. We have notified the home owner of these issues. Sincerely, Dan Arlington,CBO 4/51°' 2 n.
