RE: 660 Mayport Road I Atlantic Beach Sign Regulations
Dear Mr.Cerqueira,
I have been asked by Code Enforcement Officer Kathy Stiles to provide you with information regarding
sign regulations for the City of Atlantic Beach, as applicable to your property located at 660 Mayport
Road. According to Ms. Stiles, a complaint was received about temporary/portable signs displayed on
the open hoods of automobiles available for sale through the on-site business,A&W Auto Sales,Inc.
Per Section 17-29 of the City Code of Ordinances, the only signs permitted within Commercial Zoning
Districts are permanently affixed fascia or building(wall)signs and freestanding(monument)signs. And
per Section 17-42, portable (mobile) signs and vehicle signs, defined below, are specifically prohibited
within the City of Atlantic Beach.
Portable Sign: A sign that may be mobile and has no permanent attachment to a
building or to the ground by means of a footing, including signs with wheels designed
to be pulled or towed on a trailer or similar towing device.
Vehicle Sign: Any sign placed within, upon, or affixed to a motorized vehicle, other
than a registered logo, trademark or service mark that is attached to a motorized
vehicle.
The signs in question do meet the above definitions of prohibited signs, and therefore are noncompliant
with local sign regulations. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions or need additional
