January 2017
Dear Citizens,
On behalf of the City Commission and Staff, let me wish all of you a
happy and prosperous New Year. It’s the time of the year when many
people make resolutions to better themselves in some way. As you
look forward to the coming year, you can make a resolution that will
improve not only yourself, but your City.
We are so blessed to live in a fabulous City which has outstanding
citizen participation. Why not make a resolution to get more involved
in 2017. Maybe your resolution would be to join a City Board,
volunteer at an event, plant a tree, donate a park bench, adopt a park
or a mile of one of our City streets for clean-up, become a mentor to
an at-risk child at school, or yes, even run for office during the next
election.
One of the best ways to get involved is to start a new habit…a
habit of attending commission meetings on a regular basis. There is
no better way for your voice to be heard than to speak directly to
your elected officials about your concerns. And, once you see how the
City is run, you might be inspired to take a more active role in your
community. Because after all, it is YOuR community. Those of us who
sit on the dais are there to listen to you and to reflect your ideas and
concerns in our actions. We can’t do that unless we hear from you.
So this new year, why not make it your resolution to get involved in
Atlantic Beach. All the elected officials and City staff value your input.
And with your help, we can ensure that we continue to make positive
changes to make a great City even better!
Thank You for the privilege of serving you.
Mitchell E. Reeves - Mayor
2017 Arts in the Park
Final Call for Artists
The final deadline for artists to register is February 1st. Artists of visual art,
mixed media and jewelry, are invited to participate in this year’s Annual Arts in
the Park event at Johansen Park on Saturday, April 22nd. Contact the Recreation
Department at recreation@coab.us or 904-247-5828.
Atlantic Beach to Hold
Town Hall Meeting
The Mayor and Commission will hold a Town Hall Meeting on Saturday,
January 21, 2017 at the Commission Chamber, 800 Seminole Road
from 10 am to Noon. Citizens will have an opportunity to meet with the City
Commission and provide their input on City government and other issues.
The National Marathon to
Finish Breast Cancer - 26.2 with Donna
The 10th Annual DONNA Marathon will take place Sunday, February 12th.
Runners love our community because of all of our spirited supporters and
curb crews who come out and cheer them on as they complete their journey
to the finish line.
Each year the organizers of the marathon mark the route within our
community with a special type of chalky paint that is designed to wash
away after a hard rain. The City is requesting that citizens help keep our
streets clean by not using any type of paint to mark the streets. If a more
permanent type of paint is applied to rough asphalt streets, the markings
can be difficult, if not impossible, to remove.
The City looks forward to welcoming this year’s participants and encourages
everyone to come out and support the fight to finish breast cancer. For more
information, visit www.breastcancermarathon.com.

updated and the new maps will become effective in early 2017. Some flood
zones will change.
