Crime Prevention During The Holiday Season
The Atlantic Beach Police Department wishes everyone a safe and happy
holiday season. Here are some important crime prevention tips to follow during
the holidays:
- If you travel during the holidays and leave your home unattended, make
sure all doors and windows are property secured. Have a trustworthy
neighbor or family member watch your home and pick up newspapers
and mail.
- Valuables should not be visible through the windows or doors of your
home.
- Indoor and outdoor lights should be on an automatic timer, so the house
looks occupied.
- Take time to register for a vacation watch check at the Police Department.
- When leaving your vehicle parked, at or away from your residence,
remember to park in an area that is visible to the public and well lit at
night. Always lock all doors and remove all valuables.
- Don’t display gifts beneath the Christmas tree that can be seen from
windows or doors.
- After the holidays, don’t advertise gifts received by leaving boxes for the
garbage collection. It is a good idea to destroy boxes and place in a
sealed, non-clear garbage bag, or flatten for closure in a recycle bin.
Holiday Celebration & Tree Lighting
The Beaches Town Center along with the Cities of Atlantic
Beach and Neptune Beach are sponsoring a holiday kick-
off celebration on Saturday, December 3rd from 3 to 9
pm. The festivities will begin with a bike parade and
everyone is invited to decorate their bikes and join in
the fun. There will be many family friendly activities
to keep the little ones busy including music, dance
performances, face painting, arts and crafts tables,
hayrides and much more throughout the Town
Center area. All activities are free. The Mayors of
both cities will light the community tree and Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive
by sleigh at 6 pm to visit with the kids.
The City of Atlantic Beach is holding a toy drive for children in our beaches area.
Anyone wishing to participate can drop off new unwrapped toys at any of the
Atlantic Beach Community Centers until Friday, December 16th. Gifts will be
distributed at a Children’s Party on December 23rd from 10 am – 2 pm at the
Gail Baker Community Center. Contact the Special Events Office at 247-5828
for more information.
The holidays are a wonderful time to come together as a community and help
those less fortunate.
Dear Neighbors,
As another year comes to a close, we should all look back and be
thankful for all the blessings bestowed upon us during the year and
for all that we have accomplished. Your Atlantic Beach Commission
and City staff hope that you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving with
your friends and families. We are fast approaching Christmas and
New Years is right around the corner. Please take the time to enjoy
several events happening around our community during the month of
December as we celebrate our City’s 90th Birthday. Make plans to visit
the Adele Grage Cultural Center on December 1st from 5 to 9 pm to do
some holiday gift shopping at the City’s Ninth Annual Artisans Faire.
The Annual Christmas Tree Lighting in Town Center will take place
on Saturday, December 3rd. Our local school bands have traditionally
performed at this family-friendly event playing Christmas music to put
everyone in the holiday spirit. Another event you will not want to miss
is Acoustic Night at Johansen Park on December 4th.
As we gather with our friends and families and celebrate the holiday
season, let us be reminded of those less fortunate, and of our service
members and Public Safety employees and their families who
sometimes don’t have the ability to spend the holidays together. We
will be seeing the completion of the new Public Safety Building early
next year along with other projects that were approved in the FY 17
budget. During this coming year, we hope to have new sidewalks, park
improvements, as well as some street and drainage improvements.
If you see a City worker out in the community take the time to thank
them for all their dedication to our citizens and for the job they perform
to keep our City running efficiently every day. Your elected officials are
here to serve you and welcome your input and want to address any
concerns that you may have. We are all working together to preserve
our natural resources and to welcome new residences and businesses
to our community.
Thank You for the privilege of serving you.

Holiday Gift Tree – “Be an Angel”
Give a child a holiday surprise this season by opening your heart and being an
angel. The City of Atlantic Beach has 60-70 children in our community in need
of a gift this holiday season. Please consider visiting the Adele Grage Cultural
Center located at 716 Ocean Blvd in Atlantic Beach during the hours of 8 am to
4 pm Monday through Friday to select a child from our Angel Tree and make this
holiday “something special” for a child in our community. Please return wrapped
gifts to the Adele Grage Cultural Center no later than December 16th. For more
information, contact the Special Events Office at 247-5828.
Happy Holidays
City offices will be closed on Friday,
December 23rd, Monday, December 26th
and Monday, January 2nd
Atlantic Beach elected officials and City
Staff wish you and your family a safe and
joyous holiday season.
