Spring Egg Hunt And Fun Day
At Jordan Park ~ March 26
10 am to 1 pm
Bring the little ones out to meet the Easter Bunny at beautiful Jordan Park on
Saturday, March 26th. Festivities begin at 10 am with an egg hunt for children
ages 10 and under. There will be lots of fun activities for the entire family
including games, train rides and free refreshments. For more information, call
(904) 247-4038.
The day was first observed in 1993 when the United Nations General
Assembly declared March 22nd as World Day for Water. The UN and its
member nations devote this day to implementing UN recommendations
and promoting concrete activities within their countries regarding the
world's water resources.
Each year, World Water Day highlights a specific aspect of freshwater.
Under the theme ‘Water and Jobs’, the year 2016 provides an
important opportunity to consolidate and build upon the previous
World Water Days to highlight the two-way relationship between water
and the decent work agenda in the quest for sustainable development.
Check out the World Water Day 2016 website at http://www.unwater.org/
worldwaterday. Let’s protect our precious water supply.
2015 Public Servant Armed Forces Veteran Award
On January 14, 2016, the Jean Ribault Chapter of the Daughters of the
American Revolution presented their 2015 Public Servant Armed Forces
Veteran Award to Sergeant Lenny Jevic of the Atlantic Beach Police
Department. This annual award is given to a veteran of the Armed Forces
who has chosen to continue in public service after his or her honorable
discharge from active duty. Sergeant Jevic served in the United States Navy
from 1979 to 2000. He retired after 21 years of faithful and honorable
service to our country. Sergeant Jevic began his employment with the City
of Atlantic Beach in 2000 as an Emergency Communications Operator. In
2003, he became an Animal Control Officer. In 2004, he completed the
Basic Law Enforcement Academy and was sworn in as a Police Officer for
the City of Atlantic Beach. Sergeant Jevic is a leader who sets the example
for community oriented policing. He is one of our most recognizable police
officers due to his willingness to frequently get out of his police vehicle
and interact with our citizens and visitors. His overall friendly demeanor
and positive attitude strengthens our relationship with our community and
makes us a much better police department. Sergeant Jevic’s service in
the United States Navy and as an Atlantic Beach Police Officer are truly
deserving of the award and recognition received.
Arts In The Park 2016

the 13th Annual Arts in the Park on Saturday, April 23rd from 10 am

artists exhibiting their fine arts and crafts and there will be lots of hands-on
activities to delight the kids. Pack a picnic lunch, grab your family and come
out to enjoy the day under the elegant shady oak trees, listen to acoustic
musicians and sample lots of delicious food…all at beautiful Johansen Park.
For more information, contact the Recreation Office at (904) 247-5828 or
www.recreation@coab.us.
Dear Citizens
One of the many things that make Atlantic Beach such a special place
is its beautiful tree canopy. I'm pleased to announce Atlantic Beach
was recently certified as a Tree City USA. This program is sponsored by
the Arbor Day Foundation and recognizes municipalities that make an
effort to protect, maintain, and improve their tree canopy. To qualify
for this certification a City must meet the following criteria: 1) have a
tree ordinance, 2) a staff member that manages the tree ordinance,
3) spend $2 per capita annually on tree plantings and management
and 4) hold an Arbor Day Ceremony.
Recently, the City was awarded a $10,000 grant from the Florida
Department of Forestry to create a Tree Management and Planting
Program. This program will provide the City with a roadmap for new
tree plantings and maintenance of trees in City owned right-of-ways
and parks. As this program materializes, we hope to engage the City's
residents and tree advocates for input.
Another bit of good news...the City recently acquired a half-acre
parcel of land adjacent to Tideviews Preserve that will make it more
accessible to residents. The City is currently exploring ways to make
the retention ponds at Tideviews more of an active park with jogging
trails, benches, and pavilions. Please reach out to the City Commission
if you have any thoughts or ideas on how to improve this great asset
of ours.
As the weather begins to warm up and we start looking forward to
spending more time outdoors, I want to encourage you to check out
the many family friendly events happening in our City. One popular
event held in March is our Annual Easter Egg Hunt. Make plans to
bring the little ones out to Jordan Park on Saturday, March 26th to
enjoy the festivities.
Blessings to you and yours,
Mitchell E. Reeves
