Be Florida Friendly
You can conserve water, use less fertilizer and pesticide, save money, and have
a beautiful yard using the nine Florida-friendly landscaping principles:
• Right plant, right place • Manage yard pests responsibly
• Water efficiently • Recycle
• Fertilize appropriately • Reduce stormwater runoff
• Mulch • Protect the waterfront
• Attract wildlife
Florida-friendly landscapes are drought-tolerant and include Florida native
plants. You can learn everything you need to know at www.FloridaYards.org.
The site includes a Florida-friendly plant database, and even an interactive
yard where you can design your own Florida-friendly landscape.
Remember – Water only on your assigned days per week, before 10:00 a.m.
or after 4:00 p.m.
Homes with ODD addresses – Wednesday and Saturday
Homes with EVEN addresses – Thursday and Sunday
Non-Residential – Tuesday and Friday

Atlantic Beach Floodplain Management Program
Hurricane Season is here again! The City of Atlantic Beach participates in
the FEMA programs: the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and
the Community Rating System (CRS), monitored by the Insurance Services
office (ISo). The City of Atlantic Beach Community Rating System (CRS)
classification is based upon participation in the FEMA programs which allow
discounts for flood insurance to residential and commercial property owners.
Currently Atlantic Beach is rated as a Class 7 community which allows a
15 percent discount for flood insurance. The CRS participation includes
such activities as outreach programs, maintaining floodplain management
materials, preserving open space within the floodplain, providing floodplain
map information to citizens, enforcing current building code and stormwater
management regulations and maintaining City drainage systems. The
Building and Zoning Department also provides copies of Elevation
Certificates for structures that have been built in the floodplain. The City
is pleased to participate in programs that offer such insurance discounts.
For information contact us at (904) 247-5813 or stop by the Building and
Zoning Department at City Hall. Citizens can visit the City’s website www.coab.us
for important information on Emergency Preparedness and links to Duval
County and FEMA websites.
Renovation Of New Public Safety Building
Is Underway!
For the next 10 months the only people you will see at the police department
building will be construction workers. The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue will
still be operating out of their side of the building. Police records will be
relocated to City Hall, and can be accessed Mon-Fri, 8-5. Police dispatch
has moved to the Backup Communications Center in Jacksonville. The rest
of the department will be working out of the City’s Utilities Building on
Assisi Lane. The phone numbers have not changed. If you need to report
an incident or speak with an officer, you can still call 911 or 247-5859 for
non-emergencies and an officer will be dispatched to your location. Police
Officers will be patrolling in the City and there should not be any loss of
services.
Dear Neighbors,
Finally, the kids are out of school and the heat is on! This is the time
to slow down, take it easy and enjoy all of the great amenities our City
has to offer. As residents and visitors flock to our beaches and parks,
our City staff is put to the test trying to keep up with the demands of
the seasonal influx of people. I would like to thank all of our citizens
who do their part to help us by picking up litter and reporting issues
that would distract from everyone’s enjoyment. I would also like to
encourage everyone to please be patient and respectful of private
property while searching for parking while enjoying the beach or the
town center business district’s restaurants and shops.
While the routine activities of the summer are underway, the City is
hard at work on a number of community projects. The largest and most
visible of these projects is the renovation and expansion of our Public
Safety Building. We are adding 8,000 square feet and reconfiguring
existing space to make our critical facility more efficient and functional
for our officers and citizens. Please be patient while this project is
under construction. The anticipated completion date is March 2017.
The City is also working with the City of Jacksonville on the
reconstruction of Francis Avenue using Community Development
Block Grant funds and on improvements to the road to Dutton Island
Preserve to make it safer for pedestrians. Both of these projects are
underway.
I would like to thank all of you for making Atlantic Beach the best
community to be a part of.
