Rainy Day Savings
September typically has higher rainfall levels in our area, making it the perfect opportunity
to reduce outdoor irrigation. Florida law requires all automatic irrigation systems to
have moisture or rain sensors that prevent them from using water during a rainstorm.
A heavy rain can eliminate the need to water your lawn for up to two weeks! You can
tell when your lawn needs watering, as it will start showing signs of stress:
The lawn may start turning a bluish gray color
Tire tracks or footprints linger
Leaf blades start to fold in half lengthwise
Soil around the root zone may feel dry
If you wait until these signs are just beginning, you can keep a healthy lawn while
conserving water and lowering your bill.
For additional information on how to save water, visit www.floridaswater.com.
KNOW YOUR DAYS:
Irrigate only before 10:00 a.m. or after 4:00 p.m. and only on your days.
Odd Addresses – Wednesday and Saturday
Even Addresses – Thursday and Sunday
Non-Residential – Tuesday and Friday
Don’t Miss the End of Summer
Twilight Movie at the Park
Join us at Donner Park on Friday, September 19th for
Atlantic Beach’s end of summer outdoor movie under
the stars to enjoy the showing of “Lego Movie”. Emmet
is an ordinary, rules-following, perfectly average Lego
mini-figure who is mistakenly identified as the most
extraordinary person and the key to saving the world. He
is drafted into a fellowship of strangers on an epic quest to
stop an evil tyrant, a journey for which Emmet is hopelessly
and hilariously underprepared. The movie is free and open
to the public. Bring a comfortable chair and your favorite
snack to enjoy. Free popcorn starting at 8 pm. Movie starts at dusk. Children under
15 must be accompanied by an adult. Don’t forget the bug spray!

Dear Neighbors
I know you have all noticed the increase in residential construction
going on throughout the City. In the past year, Atlantic Beach has
experienced a 21% increase in construction projects with a 62%
increase in the value of these projects. There have been 227 homes
remodels, 12 new homes, and three new businesses built. This is good
news for our community.
New families and businesses are choosing to move into our small City.
As the economy continues to improve and Jacksonville gains stature
on the international stage and grows, Atlantic Beach also shares in the
exposure and grows. Of course with growth, comes change and we are
all feeling the effects of this too. It may help to remember that at one
time, your home was new to the community and represented change
for Atlantic Beach.
In the face of this pressure to change, my focus for Atlantic Beach
continues to be improving the quality of our business corridors,
providing additional opportunities for new and existing businesses,
protecting the residential family character that attracted all of us
here and investing in our parks and main traffic corridors to provide
the quality of life we all cherish. These goals are represented in our
budget for the new fiscal year and carried out by our great dedicated
staff in an effort to provide all of us with a community we are glad to
call home.
With the close of summer and the start of a new school year, we will
all be busy with our different activities but I hope you will still be able
to find some time to get out and enjoy the many ongoing events in
our parks.
Blessings to you and yours,
Carolyn Woods
View Your Utility Bill Online
The City of Atlantic Beach recently upgraded its website to include online viewing of
your utility bill. Now, even if you are out of town, you can securely view and print
your utility bill online. First, you will need to set up a customer profile and attach each
utility account you want to view online. Under the “How Do I…” link on the left
side banner of the City’s website www.coab.us, select the “View Utility Bill Online”
link to get started. You are not required to pay your bill online to view your bill.
If you have any questions on setting up your profile or viewing your bill online,
please contact our Customer Service Department at (904) 247-5816.
How Do I Report a Problem?
Did you know that the City of Atlantic Beach has a tool on the homepage called a
Citizen Request Tracker (CRT) that citizens can use to communicate their concerns
to the City? Citizens can use CRT to ask questions, report code violations, get
project updates, or to file a complaint. When the City receives a CRT, a member
of the City staff will review your submission, complete any research and respond
back to you as quickly as possible.Fall Flag Football
Registration for flag football is currently under way for co-ed teams. The games
are scheduled for Saturday mornings at Donner Park in October and November
and playoff games are in December. Players will receive t-shirts and awards.
Registration forms are available online at www.coab.us/recreation or they can be
picked up at the Adele Grage Cultural Center and the Jordan Park and Gail Baker
Community Centers. Contact Dee Davis at 247-4038 for more information.
