From prehis- toric people telling stories around the fire, to the biggest techno-spectacle on Broadway, theatre is about telling stories that unite us, that show us our commonality. It’s about community. It’s about shared experience. And it’s about the fact that as humans we are all forced to go on new journeys, into new worlds, over and over again throughout our lives. Showtimes: Fri & Sat at 8:00pm | *Sundays at 2:00pm Admission: $20.00 Holiday Hours for City Offices City offices will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th, Wednesday, December 25th and Wednesday, January 1st. Atlantic Beach City officials and staff wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday season. Even though there is no official Mayor’s office at City Hall, I can always be reached by email at cwoods@coab.us, or by phone at 241-8973. To contact the entire Commission please email ElectedOfficials@ coab.us . As I championed during my campaign, I look forward to working with the Business Community and the residents as we embark on our next phase of the Mayport Corridor Improvement Program and transition into the Business Corridors Improvement Program. Just a few decades ago a few visionary residents banded together to create our own Beaches Town Center. The time has come to bring this vision west along Atlantic Boulevard, “On the Boulevard” if you will, and along Mayport Road, creating a unique and desirable identity that says “You are in Atlantic Beach”. The Governor and the State Department of Transportation have both announced programs designed to help communities like ours, with just such projects, to improve the image and success of Florida’s small business corridors. Our new Redevelopment and Zoning Coordinator, Jeremy Hubsch, will be taking the lead in this project and I hope you will join in the effort. Looking a little closer in our future, Atlantic Beach will be having our quarterly Town Hall meeting in January in preparation for our spring strategic planning workshop. I hope you will join us. For more information, please check out the City Calendar at www.coab.us. Again, thank you for the opportunity to serve. I am looking forward to working together to make positive changes for Atlantic Beach. Wishing you blessings for you and yours throughout the Holidays and the New Year. Carolyn Woods give the gift of future Water supply It’s not the most romantic gift—but giving water-efficient fixtures or even appliances can help the environment while helping you with your Christmas list. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA’s) WaterSense program protects our country’s future water supply by helping people find water-efficient products. To earn EPA’s WaterSense label, products and services must use at least 20 percent less water without sacrificing performance. For instance, just by replacing the showerhead with a WaterSense labeled fixture can save an average family over 2,900 gallons of water each year. In addition, the reduced volume going through the water heater will save electricity. WaterSense also certifies irrigation professionals who can help you save water on your landscaping. When you save water, you’re saving money as well. For more information on the WaterSense program, go to www.epa.gov/watersense. Remember Your Day: Only irrigate on your day, before 10:00 a.m. and after 4:00 p.m. Odd numbered addresses - Saturday Even numbered addresses - Sunday Nonresidential properties – Tuesday For more information on water conservation go to www.FloridasWater.com. “be aN aNgel” gift tree The City of Atlantic Beach “Be an Angel” gift tree is ready for “Angels” with a selection of holiday gift ideas for children in need of a gift this holiday season. Drinking and Driving is Not an option With the festive holiday season upon us, please, before you drink - think of the options: make plans for a designated driver, take a cab, or spend the night with friends. Some Basic Facts: • Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) is the % of alcohol in a person’s bloodstream. • Each of the following contains the same amount of alcohol: - 12 oz can of beer (5% alcohol) - 5 oz glass of wine (12% alcohol) - 1.5 oz of 80-proof liquor (40% alcohol) - 12 oz wine cooler (5% alcohol) • Drivers at .08 BAC are four times more likely to cause a crash than a driver with no BAC. remember that drinking and driving is Not an option. Atlantic Beach Toy Drive Light up a child’s face and heart! The City of Atlantic Beach is holding a toy drive for children in our north beaches area. Anyone wishing to participate can drop off new unwrapped toys at the Atlantic Beach Fire Station, 850 Seminole Road by Wednesday, December 18th.
