Presents…Bookstore
musical
Book and music by richard wolf - lyrics by Jane mcadams
may 13-14, 20-22 and 26-28
A new musical by Fernandina Beach’s Richard Wolf, author of last
season’s After the Murders. Tony Gambini’s got a demanding
ex-wife and an independent small NYC bookstore struggling to
compete with the mega-stores and online booksellers. His only
hope is a lot of nerve, a little blackmail and a lot of scotch in this
richly tuneful and hilarious musical.
showtimes: thursday, friday & saturday 8 pm / sunday 2 pm
Doors open: 30 minutes before show
admission: all tickets are $20
In 1974, President Gerald Ford said “know
that a government big enough to give you everything you
want is a government big enough to take from you everything
you have.” His words take on a new meaning in these difficult
economic times where revenues for cities across the country
are shrinking, employees are being laid off and services are
being cut. If you want to live in a great community, you need
to get out and make it happen. In Atlantic Beach, there are lots
of opportunities. The City has many Boards and Committees
that provide essential functions for the community and local
newspapers are full of opportunities to become involved in the
community on a weekly basis. Use your talents, be a part of
the solution!
— Mayor Borno
Celebrate
Water Conservation Month and Earth Day Household Garbage Collection
The City of Atlantic Beach provides once weekly solid
waste removal, including trash, garbage, yard waste,
appliances and tires, to over 5,000 customers within
the corporate limits of the City.
As part of the City’s efforts to maintain and improve the
appearance of our rights-of-way, residents are reminded
that City Code prohibits placing garbage or yard waste
in front of empty lots, City parks, rights-of-way adjoining
parks or in road medians. In addition, garbage and yard
waste containers should be placed off the street to not
impede traffic or cause drainage issues.
Containers should be set out no earlier than 6 pm the
day prior to collection and are to be returned to their
regular place of storage no later than 12 midnight
on the day of collection. Containerized yard waste
,such as leaves or grass clippings, set out in a yard
waste receptacle (barrel, box or bag) may be placed
out up to two days before scheduled collection. Bulk
(uncontainerized) yard waste such as tree limbs or
palm fronds may be set out when generated.
Household Hazardous Waste Event
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the City of Jacksonville’s hazardous waste collection scheduled for
Saturday, May 14th from 8:30 am to 3 pm. A mobile household hazardous waste vehicle will be stationed
at the Jacksonville Beach Public Works Facility parking lot (1460 Shetter Ave). For more information call
Jacksonville’s Solid Waste Division at (904) 387-8847. A complete list of items that will be accepted at this
event is located on the COJ website at www.coj.net. this is the only hazardous waste collection scheduled
at the Beach for 2011, so don’t miss this opportunity to dispose of your hazardous waste items.
April is Water Conservation Month in Florida!
April is typically the driest month of the year in Florida, so it’s the perfect time to think about ways to save
water. Florida-friendly landscaping is one way to conserve. Check out the St. Johns River Water Management
District’s updated searchable plant list at www.sjrwmd.com. With information on over 800 plant species and
growing conditions, you’re sure to find water-wise
plants for your garden.
April 22, 2011 is Earth Day. HandsOn Jacksonville
will be hosting an Earth Day River Cleanup on April
16 from 8:30 am to 11 am. Check it out at www.
handsonjacksonville.org. There will also be a free
celebration at The Jacksonville Landing that day

Stormwater Master Plan 2011
City Staff will be working with a Consultant over the
next several months to update the City’s Stormwater
Master Plan. When the plan was last updated in
2002 it generated a capital improvement plan with
the Hopkins Creek Regional Retention Pond being
the major construction project recommended. In
addition to the review of past Master Plans, city
construction files and trouble lists, there will be
two public information meetings to gather input
from residents on stormwater problem areas.
Residents are encouraged to contact Public Works
at stormwater@coab.us or 247-5834 to review a
list of all problem areas.
Help Protect Our Sea Turtles
The City of Atlantic Beach would like to remind everyone that turtle
nesting season takes place from May 1st through October 31st. Please
help protect their safety by keeping our beaches as dark as possible
during the nesting season. For more information on sea turtle nests you
can contact the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol at (904) 613-6081 or visit
their website at www.bstp.net.
