42 11TH ST - ELECTRIC TESTING LETTER FOR POOL / industrial Electric Testing, Inc. EC13004105 TECHNICAL REPORT DAVID PRUETTE'S ELECTRICAL SERVIRE C E I VE for work performed at D BELILES RESIDENCE 4211th Street JUN 6 2017 Atlantic Beach, Florida Job No. 17-8239 Building Department Permit 16-pool-144 City of Atlantic Beach, FL 5/30/17...Testing of pool bonding was performed at the above referenced address on May 16, 2017. Additional verification of equipotential ground ring beneath the paver deck was performed May 26, 2017. The pool equipment was inspected and tested for proper bonding as stated in NEC Section 680- 26, which requires the following to eliminate voltage gradients in the pool area: The following parts must be bonded together: 1. Metallic Structural Components—all metallic parts of the pool structure, including the reinforcing metal of the pool shell, coping stones, and deck. 2. Underwater Lighting—all forming shells and mounting brackets of no-niche luminaries (fixtures). Exception: A listed low-voltage lighting system with non-metallic forming shells not requiring bonding is used. 3. Metal Fittings- all metal fittings within or attached to the pool/spa structure. Exception: Isolated parts that are not over 100 mm (4 in.) in any dimension and do not penetrate into the pool structure more than 25 mm (1 in.) shall not require bonding. 4. Electrical Equipment-metal parts of electric equipment associated with the pool/spa water circulating system, including pump motors and metal parts of equipment associated with pool covers, including electric motors. 5. Metal Wiring Methods and Equipment- metal-sheathed cables and raceways, metal piping, and all fixed metal parts that are within 5 feet horizontally of the inside walls of the pool, and within 12 feet above the maximum water level of the pool, or any observation stands, towers or platforms,or from any diving structures, and that are not separated from the pool by a permanent barrier. The parts specified above shall be connected to a common bonding grid with a solid copper conductor, insulated, covered or bare, not smaller than 8 AWG. Connection shall be made by exothermic welding or by pressure connectors or clamps that are labeled as being suitable for the purpose and are of stainless steel, brass, copper or copper alloy. The common bonding grid shall be permitted to be any of the following: 1. The structural reinforcing steel of a concrete pool where the reinforcing rods are bonded together by the usual steel tie wires or the equivalent. 2. The wall of a bolted or welded metal pool. 3. A solid copper conductor, insulated, covered or bare, not smaller than 8 AWG. 11321 Distribution Avenue West • Jacksonville, Florida 32256 • (904)260-TEST • Fax (904)260-0737 Branch Office: 201 NW 1st Avenue • Hallandale, Florida 33009 • (954)456-7020 4. Rigid metal conduit or intermediate metal conduit of brass or other identified corrosion- resistant metal conduit. The following items were identified as required to be bonded together: • Pool light niches (2) • Spa light niche • Heater • Pump motors • Equipotential ground ring(beneath deck) Furthermore, all bonding must be accomplished utilizing a solid copper conductor, insulated, covered or bare, and cannot be smaller than No. 8. To determine that the items listed were directly connected electrically(bonded), a two-point ground test was performed. Testing was performed utilizing an AEMC 4610 ground megger. The two-point test essentially is a resistance test between a reference point and another point under test, wherein a low resistance result indicates bonding. As the paver deck was installed prior to a visual inspection of the ground ring installed as the equipotential ground ring, it was requested that one of the four connection points be exposed. From this test point, it was verified that a direct bond between the visible bare copper wire, the exposed rebar and the bare copper conductor at the pump motor existed. Additional (3)points of connection were not verified. Test results indicate the bare copper conductor, pump motors, heater, equipotential ground ring and the light niches are directly bonded. All test results are listed on a separate test report included with this report. Additional information: The reason for ensuring the bonding of metal parts (ladders, handrails, water-circulating equipment, forming shells, diving boards, etc.) to a common bonding grid(pool reinforcing steel, pool metal wall, or an 8 AWG solid conductor) is to ensure that all such metal parts will be at the same electrical potential. This grid reduces any possible shock hazard created by stray currents in the ground or piping connected to the swimming pool. Stray currents can also exist in nonmetallic piping because of the low resisitivity of chlorinated water. Because corrosion is normally associated with the wet conditions of swimming pool areas, wiring and connections should be checked periodically, especially bonding connections between the 8 AWG copper conductor and,for instance, an aluminum (or other dissimilar metal) ladder. If you should have any question regarding this report or the services performed, please do not hesitate to call. Sincerely, 1g Gary Benzenberg, P.E. / li, Industrial Electric Te liA• Inc.
