The City Manager, City Attorney and City Clerk are the only three positions in our government
that report directly to the Commission. Therefore, as a group,we take our responsibility
seriously. Hiring our new City Manager might be the most important decision we make during
our time on this Commission.
Our City Manager is really the Chief Executive Officer of the $30 million corporation that we
call the government of the City of Atlantic Beach. Our CEO must have the experience, skills and
personality to lead the management team and staff who will keep our city clean, safe,well
managed and above all—providing great service to our residents.
Kevin Hogencamp and Cathy Berry have done a good job posting and recruiting the job and we
have approximately 36 applicants to review.Now it's time for us as Commissioners to step up to
complete the process. After all,we don't expect Kevin and Cathy to hire their own new boss, do
we?
To make this an even better process, I'd like to draw upon the executive level talent pool that
exists right here in our community. We have executives who have led large corporations and
government offices with big budgets and many staff. They have hired and worked with CEO
level professionals,they know what to look for and I believe they can help us narrow down our
list of candidates. I have a list of 32 current and retired executives who are willing to work with
us as we prioritize our list of candidates and select the very best person to be our new CEO.
This partnership with community leaders will bring the best minds to the table. I appreciate
their willingness to serve their government. When it comes to the work of caring for our city and
maintaining our quality of life,we're all in this together.
