Jim,
As you may have already heard from Timmy Johnson, a motion to fund the
• Beaches Resource Center in the amount of $1,200 from our current 2004-2005
budget, was approved by the committee during this weeks meeting. Although
this was less than the $2,000 that was requested, the committee felt that
this was all. that we could comfortably accommodate, in consideration of the
other grograms and services which were already planned for the remainder of
the fiscal year.
The committee does feel that services provided by the Resource Center,
offer valuable benefits to the citizens of Atlantic Beach. However, we
would suggest that any future requests be submitted by the end of.~March
(i.e. b months prior}, for funds that are needed for programs during the
Oct. 1 - Sept. 30 fiscal year.
Thank you for allowing our committee to consider this request. Hopefully,
the City Commission will find our input helpful. Let me know if I can be
of any further assistance.
. Rusty Pritchett, Chairman, Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee

Atlantic Beach Students attend Atlantic Beach Elementary, .Mayport Elementary, Finegan
Elementary, Neptune Beach Elementary, Mayport Middle School, and Fletcher High School,
as well as the gifted magnet school, Jacksonville Beach Elementary, Students from Atlantic
Beach attend 7 of the 10 DCSB schools in the BRC feeder pattern. Atlantic Beach students
and families have benefited from BRC funded programs such as before and after school
tutoring, reading enhancement, arts enrichment, parent training, bully-proofing, family case
work management, drug screening and education, psychological services, and medical
screenings.
Our current funding levels do not allow us to meet other needs of students and families in all
three of our Beaches communities. Last year Atlantic Beach provided the BRC Foundation
with a grant of $2000.00, which was used to fund readin
Atlantic Beach and Mayport Elementary Schools, We also received comparable or larger
grants from the other two Beach communities, which we used to provide additional services
to students and families, many of whom lived in Atlantic Beach.
Cun-ently our children and families need training on how to talk about sex and/or drugs,
education to prevent obesity, bullying and violence prevention, managing homework without
hassles, tutoring, coping with FCAT stress, and substance abuse prevention programs.
Any help that Atlantic Beach can again provide so that the BRC can expand it's
programming to reach mare Atlantic Beach children and families will be very appreciated. 1
will be glad to meet with you or any other City officials, (f you have any questions, please
contact me,
Sincerely,
