Subject: Illegal Signage
Dear Mr. Fowler,
Please consider this as both a courtesy notice and a reminder that various city codes and state
statutes prohibit obscuring store windows with temporary signs and advertising. Your business has been
found to be in violation of the following City Codes and State Statute:
City Code, Chapter 17, Sec 17-42 (10): The placement of temporary signs and the use of non-
permitted signs in the advertising of your business.
City Code, Chapter 17, Sec 17-26 (3): The placement of advertising signs in the exterior windows so
as to be visible from the exterior of place of business.
State Statute, Chapter 812, Sec 812.173 (1) (e): Window signage obstructing view of store interior
from outside of building.
The only signs and advertising permitted for your business are those that were permitted by the Building and
Zoning Departments of Atlantic Beach. All advertising signs, vendor provided neon signs, posters, and
banners displayed outside of your place of business or displayed in a window so as to obstruct the view of
the stores interior are prohibited.
In an effort to eliminate any undue hardship, I am granting you 14 days from receipt of this notification to
remove all non-permitted signs from the exterior of your business establishment as well as any advertising
placed in the windows of your business that obstruct the view of the stores interior.
Furthermore, I would like to remind you of your responsibilities as a business owner, and that continued
violations can result in fines of up to $500.00 per violation, per day from the Code Enforcement Board.
