The meeting was called to order by Mayor Howell, and immediately went
into session as a Canvassing Board to receive the Certificate of
Results from the Election Officials covering the Primary Election of
City Officials for Commission Seats No. 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Copies of the Certificate of Results of the Primary Election of
October 6, 1981 were presented to the Board by the Mayor and City Clerk .
Mayor Howell presented and read in full Resolution No. 81-14, a
Resolution certifying the results of the Primary Election of the City
of Atlantic Beach, Florida held on Tuesday, October 6, 1981.

( WHEREAS, the Inspectors and the Clerk of the Primary Election held in
Atlantic Beach, Florida, on October 6, 1981, for the purpose of electing
a Mayor-Commissioner for Seat #1, and three Commissioners for Seats 412, 414,
and 415, canvassed the votes cast and did make the returns on the same in works
as follows:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, That it is hereby unanimously voted that
said returns be accepted as reported and
That it is hereby found and determined by the City Commission of Atlantic
Beach, Florida, acting in the capacity of a Canvassing Board that the
qualified voters who participated in said Primary Election cast their
votes in favor of the following candidates as follows:
SEAT NO. I , MAYOR-COMMISSIONER, Robert B. Persons, Jr. Elected
SEAT NO. 2, COMMISSIONER, Preben Johansen Elected
SEAT NO. 4, COMMISSIONER, Bill Gulliford Elected
SEAT NO. 5, COMMISSIONER, Catherine G. Van Ness Elected
It is further found and determined that the above named candidate for Seat No. 1
is duly elected to serve for two years; and the above candidate for Seat No. 2 is
duly elected to serve an unexpired term of two years; and it is further found
that the above named candidates for Seats #4 and #5 are each duly elected to
serve for four years.
And be it further resolved that all candidates be and are hereby commended for
the dignified manner in which their campaigns were conducted in said election.
