03-26-63 v e MINUTES OF THE ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE ATLANTIC BEACH CITY COMMISSION HELD AT THE CITY HALL ON TUESDAY, MARCH 26, 1963 AT 5:30 P. M. Present: Henry G. Isaacs Preben Johansen J. B. Claiborne C. B. Lawrence, Jr. Chas. R. Moore, Commissioners and John R. Printon, City Manager Adele S. Grage, City Clerk Absent: Frank Thompson, City Attorney The meeting was called to order by the Mayor-Commissioner, Mr. Isaacs, whereupon Mr. Lawrence presented an ordinance in writing vacating and closing certain streets in the Saltair area, which was recently purchased by the City for park purposes. Mr. Johansen moved that the rules be waived and that said ordinance be presented for consideration on first reading; seconded by Mr. Moore and carried. The title to the ordinance was read in full, following which Mr. Johansen moved that sal. ordinance vacating and closing specific streets in the newly acquired park area be passed on first reading by title only, seconded by Mr. Moore and carried. April 8th at 8:00 P. M. was set for public hearing on this ordinance. Mr. Claiborne advised that he does not think that it will be necessary at this time to change the personnel ordinance and that he thinks Mr. Fultz is qualified and meets the requirements as set up by the personnel ordinance and he, therefore, moved that we hire Duane Fultz as combined Police and Fire Chief at a starting salary of $500.00 per month, seconded by Mr. Moore. There was a discussion, in which it was brought out that the question involved had to do with qualifications and salary. Following discussion, Mr. Isaacs put the question and the call vote was; Aye: Claiborne, Johansen, Lawrence, Moore Nay: Isaacs Whereupon Mr. Isaacs declared the motion carried. Mr. Claiborne advised that he had six more months to serve the people of the City of Atlantic Beach and that he intended to Minutes 3/26/63 Page 2 do it without politics and he hoped that we would all get behind the new man and the work on the new Park. Mr. Isaacs presented a request for a contribution of $22.50 to cover 30 circus tickets for underprivileged children. These tickets are to be handled by the Jacksonville Beach Police Bene- volent Society. Mr. Claiborne moved that this amount be donated from the Commissioners Fund, Account 210, seconded by Mr. Johansen and carried. There being no further business, Mr .
