09-25-12 v ya\ CULTURAL ARTS and RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE CITY OF ATLANTIC BEACH Meeting Minutes Tuesday, September 25, 2012 Adele Grage Cultural Center 6:00 p.m. Present: Chair Lori Gaglione, Cris Garrard,Jolyn Johnson, Tammy Lally, Wanda Martin, Lynne Roskein, Hollie Stephens, Timmy Johnson (City liaison)and Karen Kempf(recording). Excused:Jeff Wight;Absent:Jay Shoots. 1. Call to order- Chair Lori Gaglione called the meeting to order at 6:04 pm 2. Approval of Meeting Minutes -July 24, 2012. The August 28 meeting did not have quorum to conduct Committee business. Tammy moved and Cris seconded the motion to approve the July minutes as written. The minutes were unanimously approved. 3. Ongoing Business a. Events,Updates, Reports i. Wednesday Market-Timmy reported to the committee that the City Commission approved DIG as the new sponsors of the Wednesday Midweek Market. It was noted that the new email notices are very professional. Timmy said that DIG is working on bringing attendance up at the market. ii. Songwriters' Concert&Acoustic Nights-Timmy reported that the Acoustic Night was well attended last weekend and that pictures have been posted on facebook. October 28 is the last Acoustic Night of the season. Songwriters' is also consistently filling the theater. Cris requested photos for facebook. iii. Public Art-Jolyn passed out renderings for the Radio Shack building for a mural. Three artists submitted artwork: Brinkley, Durham,and Walker. The committee reviewed the art and ranked them by preference: Durham fishes, Brinkley's sea and sun,and Walkers sunrise. Next step would be to take the commission for review. Radio Shack will have the final decision if artwork will be painted on the side wall of the building on Sherry Dr. and Atlantic Blvd. iv. Concerts in the Park-no progress on this item of business. v. Artisans' Faire- Lynne is sending out invitations to artists this week and will confirm with Timmy on Sept 28. Cris and Jolyn volunteered to help at the November 15 event. vi. Tennis Championship -Lori reported that the 3rd Annual AB Tennis Championship is ready to be publicized. The goal is to register more women for the matches and the committee discussed how to get the work out to the various parks and leagues. Tammy volunteered to work with Lori at the event. The committee asked to copy them the flyer for email distribution and facebook posting. Karen will also add the event to facebook. vii. Arts in the Park 2013 -Jolyn reported that the subcommittee met. Sheri Beano is handling volunteers again this year. Tammy will coordinate musicians and food vendors. Jolyn passed to the committee artwork that she proposed for the Arts in the Park poster. The committee would like to review more suggestions before deciding. Durham,Yonn, etc. The suggestion was made that the previous year's winner(visual artist) might be asked to do the artwork for the following year's poster-Yonn, Newman, etc. Additional artwork will be submitted to Timmy and then sent to committee. 4. New Business a. Exhibits at Adele Grage-Jay was not in attendance and the item and discussion has been tabled until next month. 5. Other Agenda Items/Announcements a. Upcoming Events- see list below. Timmy noted that the USTA 10 &under tennis festival is being held Oct 6 at Russell courts. b. Admin Asst. Karen Kempf is retiring on Sept. 30. The committee expressed their thanks and appreciation for her support services for the past 5 years. c. Next meeting- October 23,2012 6. Adjournment-with no further business, Cris moved and Tammy seconded the motion to adjourn the meeting.
