CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
December 15, 2005
A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Advisory Committee was held Thursday,December 15,2005,in
the Adele Grage Cultural Center.Present were Chair Rusty Prichett,Linda Ginsberg,Ingrid McCawley,
Alicia Paley,Darrell Prather,Kathy Love,Laurie Melancon,Margie Reeves,guest Kirk Farber,and Parks
and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson.Ray Coleman was absent.
1. Call to Order
Chair Rusty Pritchett called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m.
2. Approval of the Minutes October 25,2005
A motion was made by Committee Member Darrell Prather,seconded by
Committee Member Alicia Paley to approve the minutes of October 25,2005.The
motion was carried unanimously.
3. Visitor Kirk Farber,President of Working Warrior
Kirk presented a proposal for the funding of his self-esteem building programs at local
schools.The program would cost a total of$3000.00.The Committee agrees to find
money in the budget for$2500.00,which would allow two F.A.C.E sessions and two
assemblies.Kathy offers to give some of Teen Council budget to fund the programs.The
suggested schools for the programs are Mayport Elementary,Atlantic Beach Elementary
and Finegan Elementary.
Timmy requested Kirk follow up with him in the next week to ensure funds are available
for the programs.The Committee agrees Kirk should present a second proposal to the
Board in April so it could be added to the new budget.
A motion was made by Committee Member Alicia Paley,seconded by Linda
Ginsberg to support the programs and funding.
4. Old Business
a) Events/Programs
i) Songwriter's Concert
Darrell was not able to attend the last concert.There were about 40
artists to perform,which is the biggest turn out for this event.The
Committee discussed different ways to advertise this event since the
audience was mostly made up of the performers at the last concert.The
email list has continued to grow and the event will be advertised on the
website,in newsletters and newspapers.
ii) Art Festival
Linda announces that artist Robin Sheppard will be designing the art
for advertising posters and flyers.Linda requested the help of the
Committee to write some blurbs regarding the Art Festival for
advertising.Rusty stated he would be meeting with a person that might
be able to get flags for the Art Festival to be placed in Town Center.
The Committee agreed to change the date to May 6,2005,due to a
conflict with other art shows in the surrounding areas on the previously
selected date of April 22,2006.

Shakespeare in the Park
Linda has been in contact with ABET and they have agreed to perform.
Timmy needs to provide a date in June for the shows.This event will
be held at Jack Russell Park by request of ABET.
b) AB Public Art Committee Update
Ray Coleman was not present to give an update to the Committee.
c) Teen Council
Kathy announced Teen Council would hold an"AB Winter Music Fest"at Jack
Russell Park on December 171' This event will consist of a bonfire,some
bands performing and a marshmallow roast.Kathy will give an update on events
in the future.
4. New Business
a) Meeting Protocol
Timmy explained that some type of protocol needs to be in effect during
Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee meetings.This would consist
of Chair Rusty Pritchett selecting who will be allowed to speak.This will allow
everyone that is speaking to be heard,as well as the minutes to be recorded more
accurately.
b) Program Ideas
Alicia reviewed her list of ideas with the Committee.The Committee agreed that
some ideas would need to be funded by next year's budget.They agree that the
Scavenger Hunt,Bike Race and Storytelling in the Park would be an option for
this year's budget.Linda requested the assistance and ideas of the Committee to
plan a Food Festival for next year.
