3. Old Business
a) Fountain Request
Michael Hoffman presented the committee with a proposal to place a fountain in the pond
located between West 4th and 5th Street on Mayport Road.Michael mentioned that the
fountain would be similar to the one in Oceanwalk subdivision and he sees it as a form of
"Art".A citizen has agreed to purchase the fountain,if the city would sign an agreement
to maintain it for five years. The fountain would add to the beauty of the park, improve
the quality of life and reduce noise to the neighborhood. The city would be responsible
for the maintenance and electric. The committee did not think this request was in line
with their purpose, but thought it was good cause and should be presented to the City
Commission. Michael mentioned that the city spends most of its' funds East of Mayport
Road. Rusty stated that the committee does not discriminate by location or neighborhood.
A motion was made by Committee Member Ray Coleman, seconded by Linda to recommend to
the City Commission that this is a worthwhile concept, but would defer to their judgment on the
commitment for future maintenance.
