01-25-05 v MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE January 25,2005 A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Tuesday,January 25, 2005,in the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Ray Coleman,Linda Ginsberg,Dylan Goelz, Ingrid McCawley, Steve Piscitelli,Chair Rusty Pritchett,James Woodruff,Laurie Melancon and Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson. 1. Call to Order Chair Rusty Pritchett called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. He also welcomed and introduced new member Laurie Melancon. 2. Approval of Minutes of December 14.2005 Steve Piscitelli stated that the word attendees is misspelled in item 3(a)(i). A motion was made by Committee Member Piscitelli,seconded by Committee Member Woodruff to approve the minutes of December 14,2004 as amended. Carried unanimously. 3. Old Business a)Events/Programs i) Songwriter's Concert Steve informed the committee that the last event was held on January 9th was a success with new acts,groups,talent and approximately 25 people in attendance. The email list that was put together may have contributed to the success. The next event is scheduled for February 13th and the first Acoustic event is scheduled for March 20. ii) Family Fun Day&Camp Out Under the Stars Rusty announced that Katherine Burgess resigned and with her resignation,the Family Fun Day will be dropped. Timmy gave the committee a brief update on the Campout scheduled for February 26 in Russell Park. The events will include games,music,storytelling and a pancake breakfast. iii) Art Festival Updates Linda updated the status of the Art Festival scheduled for 10 a.m.to 5 p.m.on May 7 in Bull Park. The packages are ready for pickup and James and Timmy will work on publicity. There will be between 15 and 20 booths at$100 each. Linda would like to see a table for kids to do some kind of active art activity, Laurie agree to look into it. Timmy and Linda will put something together for music. b) Atlantic Beach Public Art Committee Updates Ray informed the committee that the City Commission allocated$10,000 to the ABPAC. The funds will be used to begin periodic changing/rotating art in front of Adele Grage where the flagpole is located. The plan is to relocate the flagpole to the seated area in the rear of the park. The front area will be enlarged to support a sculpture. The sculpture will be on loan for six months, in return,the artist will get a potential sale and exposure. The City Commission will not comment until there is 2 years worth of art to display. Ray believes this is something that could happen this fiscal year. The City will approve any signage and sculpture prior to display. c) Teen Council Update Dylan mentioned that the Teen Council met and are working on scheduling dates for a Teen Acoustic Event and a Concert in the Park. The committee mentioned the following dates: March 13th from 4—6 p.m. for the Teen Acoustic Event and April 30th for the Concert in the Part. Dylan will review the dates with the Teen Council. Timmy will assist with notifying the Police and coordinating the Police Explorers. 4. New Business a) Atlantic Beach Public Art Committee A motion was made by Ray Coleman,seconded by James Woodruff to approve the concept of using the flagpole area in front of Adele Grage as a rotating sculpture location and to relocate the flagpole to the amphitheater area in Bull Park. Carried unanimously. b) Fun Run Steve reported that the Second Annual Fun Run has been scheduled for July 24th beginning at 6 p.m. We will follow the same format as last year and John Tenbroeck will assist with coordinating the event at a cost of$150. 5. Other a) Teen Scholarship Ray recommended that James have the ABPAC review and assist with the scholarship program. b) Steve suggests coordinating a New Year's Eve event. This suggestion will be discussed at the next meeting. c) Timmy mentioned that Parliamentary Procedures Training is scheduled for Wednesday, January 26th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Commission Chambers. 6) Adjournment Chair Pritchett reminded everyone that the next meeting would be on February 22,2005.
