12-14-04 v MINUTES OF THE CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE December 14,2004 A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Tuesday,December 15,2004, in the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Linda Ginsberg,Dylan Goelz,Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson,Ingrid McCawley, Steve Piscitelli,Chair Rusty Pritchett,and James Woodruff. Katherine Burgess,Ray Coleman and Administrative Assistant Athena Shearer were absent. 1. Call to Order Chair Rusty Pritchett called the meeting to order at 7:07 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes of October 26,2004 Steve Piscitelli presented three minor corrections to the minutes; Section 3 (aXd)Family Fun Day,the word post poned should not be hyphenated; Section 4 New Business,change"use of the building" in the second sentence to"use of Adele Grage;"change"chose"in the third paragraph to"choose." A motion was made by Committee Member Piscitelli,seconded by Committee Member Woodruff to approve the minutes of October 26,2004 as amended.Carried unanimously. 3. Old Business a) Events/Programs i) Songwriter's Concert Steve Piscitelli reported that the last event was on December 5,2005 and that only a minimal number of people attended. He said he started sending e-mail to regular attendees and performers for events and times. He mentioned that the Committee should review the event again in couple months if attendance does not pick up. He requested to make three changes to the calendar. Songwriter's Concert change April date to April 10th and Acoustic Night times in March,April and October 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm. ii) Caroling in the Park Ingrid McCawley stated that the event was held December 11,2005 and that they had a huge turnout,around 70 people. She advertised the event in the local papers,First Coast Parent,and it was on the marquee at City Hall. She had cookies,apple cider and Santa Claus. She would like to have the event again next year and have it amplified. iii) Family Fun Day& Camp Out Under the Stars Katherine Burgess was absent. iv) Art Festival Updates Linda Ginsberg stated that she would like to have the event at Town Center. Chair Pritchett said he attended the"Artful Home"show and said it was phenomenal. He and Ingrid McCawley thought it would do well at Bull Park. Linda Ginsberg suggested making it a two-day event. The Committee discussed increasing the number of booths,keeping the booth fee nominal,and having electrical cords available. Linda Ginsberg suggested getting the publicity out as soon as possible. Timmy Johnson said he and Linda Ginsberg would need to meet to work out the publicity and the rest of the details. She would like to schedule the event for May 7, 2005. Minutes of Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee December14, 2004 Page 2 b) Public Art Fact Finding Committee Updates Ray Coleman did not attend the last meeting. c) Teen Council Dylan Goelz,Vice President, stated that he did not receive the minutes. Rusty reviewed the Teen Council section to check for corrections. He informed the Committee that the Teen Council would help with the Kids Christmas Party at Donner Park Community Center. The Teen Council helped with the"Giving Tree"at Adele Grage. He stated that they would not meet again until January. He asked how the Teen Council could get on the City Calendar. Timmy Johnson told him to e-mail him a list of events and he would get them on the calendar. 4. New Business a) Art in Public Places Timmy Johnson stated that he thought this was part of the Art Festival event or the Fact Finding Committee. Chair Pritchett asked about the plaque for the sculpture. Timmy Johnson said that he received an e-mail that the plaque did come in and he was waiting for the guy to deliver it to him. b) Events at other City Parks Timmy Johnson said that he and Jim Hanson had discussed having more events at more of the City Parks such as Dutton Island,Tideviews,Veteran's Memorial Park,and Rose Park. c) Committee Vacancy Timmy Johnson said that three people were interviewed and they selected a new member at the City Commission meeting last night who is a member of the PTA at Atlantic Beach Elementary. She should be at the next meeting. d) Request from Beaches Resource Center Timmy Johnson stated that Jim Hanson sent information to Rusty Pritchett about a request from the Beaches Resource Center for$2,000 to expand their services at local schools. He said that they had requested the same donation last year and the City Manager said the money should come out of the Committee's budget. He reminded the Committee that the Art Festival and the Family Fun Day were not in the budget yet,and they have$2,500 in the Discretionary Fund. Motion by Linda Ginsberg,seconded by Steve Piscitelli to donate$1,200 to the Beaches Resource Center from the Concerts in the Park fund. Carried unanimously. 5. Adjournment Steve Piscitelli stated that he would try to have a date set for the Race for the next meeting. James Woodruff said he would like to start up a scholarship contest for older teenagers to do a piece of art to put up at City Hall that would rotate every year. • r Minutes of Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee December14, 2004 Page 3 Chair Pritchett reminded everyone that the next meeting would be on January 25,2005.
