CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
• July 27,2004
A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Tuesday,July 27,
2004, in the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Present were Chair Rusty Pritchett, Linda Ginsberg,James
Woodruff,Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson,Ingrid McCawley and Steve Piscitelli.
Katherine Burgess,Ray Coleman,Administrative Assistant Athena Shearer,James Strutchen,Jr. and a
representative from the Teen Council were absent. Marcia Scheetee and Terry Nicholas were visitors.
1. Call to Order
The meeting was called to order at 7:02 p.m.
2. Approval of Minutes of June 22,2004
Chair Pritchett stated that Steve Piscitelli's name was left off the attendee's list.
A motion was made by Committee Member Piscitelli,seconded by Committee Member Ginsberg to
approve the minutes of June 22,2004,as amended.Carried unanimously.
3. Old Business
a)Events/Programs
i) Acoustic Night Under the Stars:
Steve Piscitelli reported that the last event was held July 18t and that it was moved into
the theater due to chance of rain and about 75 people attended. The next event was
• scheduled for August 15th. He gave proposed dates for the next year for the Committee
to approve.
ii) Songwriter's Concert:
Steve Piscitelli stated that the event was moved to Sunday nights and the last event was
July 25th with 27 people in attendance. The next event is set for August 29th. He
suggested having the event on the first Sunday of each month next year. Timmy Johnson
suggested waiting until the City Commission approves the budget to decide on next
year's schedule.
iii) Paint It Up:
Katherine Burgess was absent. Chair Pritchett suggested removing the event from the
agenda if there is nothing new presented at the next meeting.
b) Public Art Fact Finding Committee Updates

c) Teen Council
There wasn't anyone present from the Teen Council.
d) Concrete Sculpture
Timmy Johnson stated that the concrete sculpture was installed and that he had received calls
about what it is. A plaque was made and there will be a dedication and all members will be
invited. The sculpture is called"Elements."
Se) Fun Run Event Update
Steve Piscitelli reported that the event is Sunday,August l',at 6:30 p.m. and he still needs
volunteers. Top three finishers will receive trophies. The consultant estimated 70-100
participants.

f) Concert in the Park
Linda Ginsberg said she has been waiting for an answer from the Navy Band contact. The
tentative date is September 4th
.
4. New Business
a) Committee Member Re-appointments
Timmy Johnson stated that the 4 members were re-appointed for another term.
b) Request for Special Event: Holiday Art Show
Visitors Marcia Scheetee and Terry Nicholas presented information on having an"Art Show"
event by artists in"Artful!Home"to sell art at Adele Grage and rent the Adele Grage
Cultural Center. Timmy Johnson stated that the City would not approve the event for a"for
profit"unless the Committee sponsored the event as an"art festival." The Committee
suggested Bull Memorial Park as a location and having it open to the public and include local
artists. Linda Ginsberg suggested charging a fee to the artists. They would like to have a fall
"Art Show."
Motion to support an"art festival"along with"Artfull Homes"by Linda Ginsberg,
seconded by Steve Piscitelli. Carried unanimously.
Timmy Johnson suggested that Marcia Scheetee,Terry Nicholas,and volunteer's from the
• Committee get together to decide on a date for the festival.
c) Request for Special Event: Dog Show
Timmy Johnson stated that the event is scheduled for Saturday,August 21'from 3:00 p.m.to
8:00 p.m. in Russell Park.
5. Adjournment
Chair Pritchett reminded everyone that the next meeting would be August 24,2004. There being
no o er business or discussion,the meeting was adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
