Present were Chair Rusty Pritchett, Katherine Burgess, Ray Coleman, Steve Piscitelli, Mara Sloan(Teen Council), James Strutchen, City Commissioner Paul Parsons, Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson and Committee Secretary Susan Dunham. Absent were Rex Sands, Betsy Tidwell and Margie van de Guchte. 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m. Chair Pritchett introduced James Strutchen, new Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory member,and Mara Sloan from the Teen Council. 2. Approval of Minutes of April 30, 2003 A motion was made by Committee Member Piscitelli, seconded by Committee Member Coleman, and unanimously carried to approve the Minutes of April 30, 2003. 3. Old Business a) Events/Programs: i) Acoustic Night Under the Stars: Committee Member Piscitelli proposed an Acoustic Night Under the Stars for June 22 and July 20 from 6:00 p.m.to 8:00 p.m. outside the Adele Grage Cultural Center. Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson advised that he would fax the press release • prepared by Committee Member Piscitelli to the Beaches Leader and Shorelines. Committee Member Piscitelli stated that Mike Shackelford would perform both nights and the event would be held rain or shine. ii) Other Programs: Updates were given as follows: • YMCA: 45-50 people signed up at Adele Grage, 40 people at Donner Park and 35 people at Jordan Park. The programs begin Monday. • Teen Council: o Concert: The teens had a great time at the concert at Russell Park on May 3. Al's Pizza served food and drinks. o Scholarship: Gave away$500. Hoping for$1,000 scholarship next year. o Ropes Course: Scheduled for June 21. This is an obstacle course that emphasizes teamwork and trust. • Skate Park: Approximately 25 people attended first public meeting. Distributed packets with a questionnaire. Going to schedule second public meeting for June 23 at which time the architect will provide a sketch based on information gathered at the first meeting. • Programs for Elderly: An elder appreciation day was suggested. • ABAA Programs at Donner Park and Russell Park: Complimenting baseball and football camps for both parks. • Reader Boards and Posting Boards: Reader Boards on Atlantic Boulevard and Mayport Road. • New Programs: All committee members to come to next meeting with one program to include date,time and cost for event. City e-mail List: Prepare e-mail list of city residents for notification of events. • • Golf Camp: Possible co-op with pro at Selva Marina County Club. • Bus Tour of City Parks ,A r Minutes of Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee April 30, 2003 Page 2 • • Sculpture: Give thought to sculpture in public places. Commissioner Parsons suggested writing letters to the commissioners in support of art in public places. ■ Band Shell at Russell Park 4. New Business None. 5.
