Adjournment Notice to persons needing special accommodations and to all hearing impaired persons: In • accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, persons needing special accommodation to participate in this proceeding should contact the City of Atlantic Beach (904) 247-5800, 800 Seminole Road, Atlantic Beach, Florida 32233 not later than 5 days prior to the date of this meeting. • MINUTES OF CULTURAL ARTS AND RECREATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE March 25, 2003 A regular meeting of the Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee was held Tuesday, March 25, 2003, in the City Hall Conference Room. Present were Chair Rusty Pritchett, Ray Coleman(arrived at 7:40 p.m.), Steve Piscitelli, Rex Sands, Betsy Tidwell, Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson and Committee Secretary Susan Dunham. Due to a lack of a quorum, a general discussion began at 7:05 p.m. Suggested corrections to the Minutes of February 25, 2003, were made as follows: 4.a)Fifth sentence, add: "without cracking"to the end of the sentence"Mr. Talley responded that the contractors are confident that the sculpture can be produced." 4.b) Second paragraph: change"thing"to "think". 5.a) Second sentence, change "on May 19..."to "beginning May 19..." Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson updated the Committee as follows: 1) City Commission approved the sculpture; 2) City Commission approved$1,500 towards Project Graduation; 3) He is negotiating with an architect with regard to the skate park and should have a contract by Thursday which he will present to the City Commission; and 4) The Camp Out was cancelled. He attempted to re-schedule the event but it has rained for the last few weekends. 410 Ms. Ashley Haas of the YMCA introduced herself. She briefly outlined the mission and focus of the YMCA and stated that the YMCA would like to offer a summer camp at Adele Grage. She described the highlights of the camp as follows: 1. Teacher to student ratios: 1:12 and 1:15 for older children. 2. Hours from 7:00 am to 6: 00 pm. From 9:00 am to 4:00 pm the children are separated by age group and moved into special interest groups. 3. "Camp Reality"is theme for this summer. Week One: American idol; Week Two: Fear Factor;Week Three: Who Wants to Win 100 Grand;Week Four Survivor;Week Five Trading Spaces;Week Six: Star Search; Week Seven: Junk Yard Wars; and Week Eight: Rerun. 4. Daily classes offered that the children can choose such as Spanish, cooking, etc. 5. Not exclusive to Atlantic Beach residents. Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson advised the Committee that another organization held the summer camp last year at Atlantic Beach Elementary and the YMCA would like to run the camp for the City this year. He further stated that last year the City offset the cost for citizens. Committee Member Ray Coleman arrived at 7:40 p.m. 1. Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 7:45 p.m. 2. Approval of Minutes of February 25, 2003 A motion was made by Committee Member Piscitelli, seconded by Committee Member Coleman, • and unanimously carried to approve the Minutes of February 25,2003, as amended. , Minutes of Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee March 25, 2003 Page 2 110 3. Old Business a) Events/Programs: Moved to after New Business. 4. New Business a) Presentation by YMCA: Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson advised that the City spent $10,000 last year for a summer program. He stated that the YMCA program was for eight weeks and would enable the YMCA to offer a discount to all Atlantic Beach residents. It was determined that Atlantic beach residents would pay$45.00 per week whether they were a YMCA member or not, and the registration fee would be$10.00 for YMCA members and$60.00 for YMCA Non-Members. A motion was made by Committee Member Coleman, seconded by Committee Member Sands, and unanimously carried to recommend that the City fund the YMCA program in the amount of $10,000 for discounts for the citizens of Atlantic Beach for summer camp at Adele Grage Community Center. 3. Old Business a) Events/Programs: Chair Pritchett advised that the Artists Studio Tour had been moved to the end of May. Committee Members suggested the following events: 1. Regularly scheduled tours to all the parks in Atlantic Beach; 2. Fishing rodeo at Dutton Island to include arts/crafts, picnic; 3. Acoustic night outside under the stars at Adele Grage from 6-8 p.m. on a Sunday night; and • 4. Permanent band shell at the back of Adele Grage or Russell Park. Parks and Recreation Director Timmy Johnson requested that each member prepare a plan and budget of their ideas to bring to the next meeting The Committee moved the April Cultural Arts and Recreation Advisory Committee meeting to Wednesday, April 30, 2003. 5.
