AGENDA ITEM: Street Sweeping/Vacuuming

The contract for street sweeping expires July 31, 2005. We have
two different contractors doing this service. Sweeping services are
" ~ currently provided by USA Services for the city streets and Surface
• Management for FDOT roads. USA Services has notified the city
that they did not wish to extend the contract for financial reasons.
• ~ Surface Management (the only other bidder) has agreed to extend
• their contract for another year; they have also agreed to take over
the city streets for the same amount they bid last year with no
increase in the price. Street sweeping is a requirement of our MS4 /
NPDES permit. Additionally, it is part of our contract with FDOT
• to provide monthly sweeping of Atlantic Blvd & Mayport Road
(less bridges). USA was sweeping City streets every other month
for $12,390.00 a year. The Surface Management price would be
$16,800A0 for City streets, a difference of $4,410.00 a year.
` RECOMMENDATION: Award the contract to Surface Management for City Street
sweeping and extend the contract for FDOT monthly sweeping for
a total of $20,736.00. The new contract start date will be August
-1, 2005.
BUDGET: $20,000.00 is budgeted for street sweeping in the Stormwater
Other Contracts Account (470-0000-538-3400); the difference will
be paid from same account.
ATTACIIMENTS: Letter signed by Surface Management agreeing to extend the
contract.

As you are aware, the contract with the City of Atlantic Beach for Sweeping the FDOT roads
within the city limits expires on July 31, 2005. We would like to extend the contract for another
year at the current prices, if this is acceptable to your company. In addition we would like to add
the City Streets to your contract using the prices you bid last year. If acceptable, please sign
below and return to me before June 30, 2005, so I can prepare a staff report for the City
Commission to accept the extension and additional work.
FDOT Monthly Sweep $328.00
City Streets Every Other Month Sweep $2,600.00
City Hall Parking Every Other Month $100.00
Public Works Yard Every Other Month $100.00
