AGENDA ITEM: Purchase of Effluent Pump for Wastewater Plant #2

BACKGROUND: The two large effluent pumps at Wastewater Plant #2 (739 Renault Drive)
are designed to pump the entire flow of up to 1.9 million gallons per day of treated wastewater to
the St. Johns River.
One of the pumps has been experiencing some temporary malfunctions. Due to the critical
nature of these pumps, it is staff's recommendation to purchase a new replacement pump and
install it, then rebuild the existing pump for use as a spare. At this time we have no spare pump,
and lack of pumping capability for even a few hours could result in a sizeable spill and potential
fines from DEP.
The pump is a Fairbanks Morse 2-stage vertical turbine pump, and the sole source vendor for
municipal sales in Florida is Sanders Company, Inc. The cost of the pump is $16,315.
BUDGET: Funds are available in the Sewer Fund in the miscellaneous professional services
account number 410-5508-535-3100, and will be transferred to the equipment account in the
same fund.
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize staff to purchase the Effluent Pump for Wastewater Plant
#2 from the sole vendor, Sanders Company, Inc., in the amount of $16,315.
