AGENDA ITEM: Annual Contract -Sod Installation for the Public Works Dept.

BACKGROUND: On August 3, 2005, the City received one bid for the Annual
Contract - "Sod Installation for the Public Works Deparhnent."
Muhammad Lawn Maintenance & Landscape Services, Inc.
submitted a price for St. Augustine Sod at $14.50 per square yard,
which equates to $805.56 per pallet (assumes 500 Sq. Ft. per
pallet).
The City can purchase one pallet of St. Augustine Sod at $120.00
per pallet, and have one General Maintenance Worker install
within one man day at $81.92 per day, which equates to $202 per
pallet. (This is based on the average of four General Workers'
current hourly rate).
BUDGET: Funds for Sod Installation would come from the Streets Division
Other Contractual Service Account (001-5002-541-3400) as area
other point repairs.
RECOMMENDATION: Reject the bid submitted by Muhammad Lawn Maintenance and
Landscaping Services, and allow the City to purchase and install
sod on an as-needed basis, at a cost considerably less than the
submitted bid.
