Call to order The meeting was called to order at 4:30 pm. Those in attendance were Mayor John S. Meserve, Commissioner Sylvia N. Simmons, City.Manager Jim Hanson, City Clerk Donna L. Bussey, Finance Director Nelson Van Liere and Police Employee's Pension Board of Trustees Chairman Henry Bartle. 2. Discuss/review current member of the Pension Board of Trustees (Policel A. Richard Downes City Manager Hanson explained that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss membership on the Pension Board of Trustees. It was explained that the Police Employee's Pension Board has one civilian ' ' member expiring in October (Richard Downes) and one civilian member (Tony Downing) expiring in December and that both of the members are interested in being reappointed. ` Mr. Van Liere gave his evaluation of both Richard Downes and Tony Downing. He reported that both . members have a good attendance record and that he considers them to be valuable assets to the Police Employee's Pension Board of Trustees. Chairman Bartle also reported a positive evaluation of the two ` members. Discussion ensued. The consensus was to recommend reappointing Richard Downes and Tony Downing to serve on the Police Employee's Pension Board of Trustees for another term. Mr. Van Liere reported that a member of the General Employee's Pension Board of Trustees, Anne Minor, will be moving out of the City and will be resigning from the General Employee's Pension Board • ~ causing a vacancy on the General Employee's Pension Board. It was explained that Mr. Downing is on both the Police Officer's Pension Board of Trustees and the General Employee's Pension Board of Trustees and that Mr. Downes could also serve on both Boards. Mr. VanLiere noted that the Police Pension Board has terms of two (2) years and the General Pension Board has terms of four (4) years. The committee discussed the idea of Mr. Downes serving on both boards. The consensus was to ' ' recommend appointing Richard Downes to the General Employee's Pension Board of Trustees to fill the vacancy of the unexpired term of Anne Minor. ' ' The committee discussed the procedure for handling future vacancies.
