The purpose of this memorandum is to address instillation requirements for Nichiha Lap siding
with 8"reveal. We understand that the Florida Product Approval installation methods to achieve
the necessary design wind pressures would require a face nail application. We have collaborated
with Nichiha technical product representatives to review additional testing and results beyond
those reflected in the current product approval installation to substantiate the following.
• 8"reveal Nichiha lap siding associated with this project can be installed with 6d
galvanized or stainless roofing nails(0.125"shank diameter x min 13/4"long with min
0.362"head diameter)blind nailed @ max 8"on center. Blind nails can be installed at
each stud and one into the OSB sheathing at each stud bay.
• As we understand limited portions of the 8"reveal lap siding has been installed on
portions of the north,east, and south exterior walls with 6d galvanized or stainless
roofing nails blind nailed into the studs @ 16"on center. We have reviewed the
structural capacity of this installation and conclude that it is adequate in the interior
zones of the walls,however 8"reveal siding in the end zones (4' from the corners as
illustrated in the attached)must be removed and re-installed with blind nail connection
specified above.
