Call to order • The meeting was called to order at 5:00 pm. Those in attendance were Mayor Don Wolfson, . Commissioner Sylvia Simmons, City Manager Jim Hanson, City Clerk Donna L. Bussey, Tree Conservation Board Chair Maureen Shaughnessy and Community Development Director Sonya Doerr. 2. Meet and review new applicants for the Tree Conservation Board A. Barbara Mears Commissioner Simmons explained the purpose of the meeting was to interview for one vacancy on the Tree Conservation Board and that there were two applicants on the agenda. • The Committee interviewed Barbara Mears. She explained her interest in serving on a board and being involved in the community. She indicated that she had previously served on the Tree Conservation Board. Discussion ensued. Ms. Meazs decided that she would preferred to serve on the Code • Enforcement Board instead of the Tree Conservation Board but that she would serve on Tree Conservation Board if the city was unable to find someone else. B. Carole Varney The Committee interviewed Carole Varney. An overview of the duties and responsibilities of the Tree • Conservation Board was explained to her. She expressed her interest in being on the Tree Conservation Board and explained her experience with and education on planting and gardening. The Committee offered the opportunity to ask questions. The Committee responded to those questions. After the interviews were conducted, the committee discussed the vacancy and candidates. Ms. Shaughnessy advised the committee that she believed there to be a second vacancy. There was uncertainty as to whether a second vacancy exists since the member had not notified the City. The Committee recommended appointing Carol Varney to fill the vacant position. The Mayor questioned the legalities of the process and asked that the City Manager consult with the City Attorney • and have a report at the next commission meeting. ' 3. Discussion and review current members and new applicants for the Community Development Board ' This item was not discussed due to Mayor Wolfson's concerns about a possible conflict in language between the City Charter and several ordinances regarding appointments to boards and committees.
