AGENDA ITEM: Construction Services for the Ocean Blvd -13~h Street Drainage
lmprovements

BACKGROUND: Bids were opened for the Ocean Blvd --13th Street Drainage
Improvement Project (PW0409) on Wednesday, November 23,
2005. There were five bids.
Callaway Contracting lnc. submitted the low bid, in the amount of
. - $125, 395.09. In addition to the designed drainage improvements,
the bid included an additive alternate to replace a segment of
Orangeburg (fiber pipe running from the northeast corner of the
intersection of 13 h Street and East Coast Drive to the west side of
East Coast Drive. Although this pipe is still functioning, it has
passed useful life expectancy and will require replacement in the
near future. Replacing the existing pipe while the contractor is on
site will save money over a future replacement when failure occurs.
Callaway Contracting's bid for this Additive Alternate #1 was
$7,042.47 (also the low bid). Total bid price for this project is
$132, 437.56.
BUDGET: A project budget of $129,600 is allocated in the FY 2006
Stormwater Capital Improvements Account (470-0000-538-6300).
Funds are available in the Stormwater Other Contractual Services
Account (470-0000-538-3400) for the Additive Alternate as a point
repair.
RECOMMENDATION: Award a contract for Construction of the Ocean Blvd -13th
Street Drainage Improvements including Additive Alternate 1 to
Callaway Contracting Inc. in an amount not to exceed $132, 437.56
and authorize the City Manager to execute the agreement for
construction services on the City's behalf.
