JOHNS COUNTY TREES ADORNED WITH LIGHTS, FLORIDA DECORATIONS AND STARS AS . ~ "CHRISTMAS TREES" The City Commission of St. Augustine Beach, St. Johns County, Florida, in regular meeting duly assembled on Monday, December 5, 2005, resolves as follows: " ~ WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the City Commission that coniferous trees decorated with lights, ornaments and stars on City property have been referred to as "Holiday Trees; and WHEREAS, coniferous trees adorned with lights, decorations and stars have been popularly associated with the celebration of Christmas since the 16'" Century; and . WHEREAS: The City of St. Augustine Beach is inclusive to all religions and customs and the Clty respects all religious and cultural traditions equally. The use of the term "Holiday Tree" is denigratory of the customs of those celebrating Christmas; and WHEREAS, the City Commission recognizes that the use of the term "Holiday Tree" is an attempt to be inclusive of all persons of whatever creed or custom and further recognizes . that those using the term have their hearts In the right place, but go too far in the name of political correctness; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that tide City Commission of the City of St, Augustine Beach, St. Johns County, Florida does hereby direct staff to refer to trees adorned with lights, decorations and stars as Christmas Trees from this point forward. B~ is further Resolved that all references to "Holiday Tree" be replaced with the~term "Christmas Tree" in any City literature. Be it further resolved that the City Commission uses this time of year to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Joyous Kwanza, and joins with those celebrating Eid-al- Adha in remembering the less fortunate. .
