WULF.- :AS, Rotary is a global network of 1.2 million neighbors; friends, leaders and problem -
solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change; and
WHEE-EAS, through its 2U,000 -plus Interact Clubs worldwide, Rotary fosters the development
of young leaders who take action to make a ditterence in their schools and communities; and
WHEREAS, sponsored by Rotary Club of Jacksonville-Uceanside and guided by retiring
teacher Doug Brown, the 2018 Beaches Watch 1,'riend of the Beach honoree; the Duncan U. 11etcher
Senior High School Inicract Club ham an e,traordinary mipact on the Beaches coininunity year in and
year out; and
WHER-LAS, the N'letcher Interact Club has undertaken countless co,innunity service pr0jCct3
with groups of all ages, from weekly elementary tutoring to a dinner -and -dance for Pablo Towers
residents; raised tens of thousands of dollars for game -changing service endeavors such tsps for
Warriors, Rise Against Hunger, Beaches Emergency Assistance Ministry (BEAM), and United Service
Urganizations (USU); and sponsored a Dream for a "Dreams Come 1'rue" child; and
WHEKLAS, the City of Atlantic Beach desires to do its part to help create the next generation
of thoughtful, committed and action citizens by teaching our youth the principles of a democratic
society; and
WHERAS, under the premise that "leaders are developed by doing,'" the City of Atlantic
Beach deems it htting for 11etcher Interact Club members to shadow its elected officials on the
Commission Chainbcr. dais duffing a City incciing.
