AGENDA ITEM #4A
MARCH 24, 2003
Summary of Donner Park activities:
^ The annual Thanksgiving Dinner on November 22. Senior Citizens from around the area
cooked various dishes to share with local families in need.
^ Thanksgiving baskets were prepared for local families. Food and clothes were donated by
Abess Park Elementary School and the Salvation Army of Florida for families who need
assistance this holiday season. Baskets were prepared for 43 families.
^ Meetings were held with various beach organizations about Christmas donations and who
will aid for the month of December.
Summary of Jordan Park activities:
^ During the month, we mixed in some Thanksgiving activities along with the after school
program. We added a few other tutors to assist with program. We have installed a
program to improve the children's reading ability. Our goal with the reading program is to
increase the speed in which the children read. We also hope to increase the children's
comprehension level. We are trying to provide the children with a fun and exciting way of
learning.
^ We've changed our routine a bit to have arts and crafts every Friday. Thanksgiving
projects now adorn the walls of the community center. The children also wrote letters to
their parents to tell what they are thankful for.
^ We also completed our flag football season. We had another fun and exciting year. The
season ended with playoffs that included several overtime games. At the end, we crowned
two teams champions. The black team was victorious over the Blue Team. In the 9-12
age group, the orange team led an undefeated season victory over the green team. We
received a lot of positive feedback from parents and the community and look forward to
next season.
Summary of Parks and Recreation Activities:
^ Prepared invitation for the Adele Grage Opening. Met with contractors regarding finishing
points of the building.
^ Began preparation for the Atlantic Beach Tree Lighting.
^ Held two inner-departmental meetings.
^ Completed hanging Christmas lights and decorations in Town Center.
^ Completed Fishing Pier Project at Dutton Island.
