Subject: Term Limits for Board Members
I have requested that the City Manager review all the term limits for our volunteer boards
in Atlantic Beach and include this issue as an agenda item for our next regular meeting. I
think the people spoke a long time ago to limit the time we are all in office and I think we
should be consistent and have our boards reflect this as well. I believe no one should be
on any board longer than eight years with two (2) four-year terms, unless there is an
urgent opening. This is not only for the obvious reason, too much power by any one
person or group of people, but I think it will encourage other interested people to
volunteer. I know in the past we have had a rough time getting people interested in some
of our boards, but this sitting Commission as well as the Mayor have been getting things
done that have not been done in the past. We have been apro-active City as long as I
have been on the Commission and this is another way to keep on improving the quality of
life in Atlantic Beach.
