19. Hedge Planting:
All hedge plants shall be planted in trenches in the locations indi-
cated in the drawings and shall be planted in single rows in the
center of the trenches, unless otherwise indicated on the plans.
a) Hedge Trenches: Shall be one foot wider than the diameter of
the ball. The depth of the trenches shall be as deep as neces-
sary to permit the required six inches of topsoil mixture
beneath the balls and to accommodate the ball of roots. The
hedge plant shall be evenly spaced and planted in the same
manner as specified for shrubs. Topsoil mixture, as specified,
or plant bed soil mixture shall be used in backfilling hedge
trenches.
20. Ground Cover Plants:
a) Plants in gallon cans (number 10 size) Liriope, Hemerocallis,
and other plants of smaller size shall be treated as ground
cover plants.
b) Preparation of the top eight inches of the planting soil is as
follows
1. Fine grade to remove all trash, rocks, debris, etc.
2. Spreading three inches of peat moss or humus uniformly over
entire ground cover area.
3. Spread the 50% organic fertilizer at the rate of 40 pounds
per 1,000 sq. ft. uniformly over the ground cover area.
4. Spread the 100% organic fertilizer at the rate of 25 pounds
per 1,000 sq. ft. uniformly over the entire ground cover area.
5. Mix soil by rotor type or by other method approved by the
Landscape Architect or His Representative to a depth of
eight inches.
6. Regrade to the finished grade and then mulch.
7. Plants that require spacing shall be planted twelve inches
