BET Presents...
The Children's Hour
Classic Drama by Lillian Hellman
Directed by Deborah Jordan
October 28-30, Nov 4-6 and Nov 10-12
One of the great successes of this distinguished writer. A serious adult
play about two women who run a school for girls. After a malicious
youngster starts a rumor about the two women, the rumor soon turns to
scandal. As the young girl comes to understand the power she wields,
she sticks by her story, which precipitates tragedy for the women. It
is later discovered that the gossip was pure invention, but it is too
late. Irreparable damage has been done. A joint production with
Jacksonville University.
Showtimes: Thursday, Friday & Saturday 8 pm / Sunday 2 pm
Admission: Adults - $15 Seniors, Military and Students - $12

The elections are over and two new
commissioners will be sworn into office
on November 14th. I want to take
this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to
Commissioners Paul Parsons and John Fletcher for their
service to our City. During their tenure, many of the
Commission's strategic goals were accomplished. Some
of these include making many improvements to the
Mayport Corridor and adjoining neighborhoods, rebuilding
the stormwater system in the Royal Palms neighborhood
without having to borrow any money to do it and making
numerous park improvements ranging from acquisition of
the River Branch Preserve to various projects at the Beaches
Memorial Veterans Park as well as Jordan and Donner
Parks. The City's financial condition remains strong even in
times when many other cities have been forced to reduce
services. I hope both Paul and John will remain committed
to the betterment of our community by staying involved.
A hearty congratulations and welcome are in order for newly
elected Commissioners Maria Mark and Mark Beckenbach
as they assume the responsibilities of service to our
citizens. You each bring a unique perspective and love of
community which will ensure that we continue to move
forward to make Atlantic Beach the best community that it
can be. Our City is represented by citizens making personal
commitments to dedicate themselves to serving us all as
elected officials and for this they should be commended.
Together, your new Commission will face many important
challenges. You can be confident that each decision the
Commission makes on your behalf will be treated with the
utmost care and deliberation. It is through careful planning
and teamwork with Commissioners and staff that long-term
goals can be accomplished.
Again, we welcome the new Commissioners to the team
and look forward to continuing the success that has made
our community by the sea a great place to live and raise
our children.

The 2011 St. Johns River Report
This year's State of the River Report is now available at www.sjrreport.
com. Researchers from Jacksonville University, University of North Florida
and Valdosta State University compile information and data on the St.
Johns River from various agencies to provide a "report card" on the river's
overall health.
The report rates the St. Johns River's condition with respect to water
quality, fisheries, aquatic life and sediment contaminants. A brochure
report is available for those wanting a brief overview, but the full report
and appendix can also be downloaded.
The report also reviews actions that are being taken to improve the river's
condition.
Remember, only irrigate on your assigned days before 10 am and
after 4 pm.
Odd numbered addresses - Wednesday and Saturday
Even numbered addresses - Thursday and Sunday
Non -Residential properties - Tuesday and Friday

Floodplain Management Program
The City of Atlantic Beach participates in the Insurance Services (ISO) Floodplain
Management Program which allows discounts for flood insurance to Atlantic Beach

control systems and construction of buildings in the floodplains. The City currently has
a rating of 7, which gives property owners in the Special Flood Hazard a 15 percent
discount on their flood insurance. The program includes such activities as outreach
programs, preserving open space within the flood plain, providing floodplain map
information to citizens, providing copies of Elevation Certificates and information for
structures built in the floodplain, enforcing current building code and storm water
management regulations and maintaining the City drainage systems. For additional
