Director of Public Works DATE: May 8, 2003 BACKGROUND: Throughout construction, despite many years of adding Iimerock to these streets, it became evident that the limerock base was inconsistent. In some areas we had a sufficient base, but in most areas the remaining limerock was mostly choked with sand throughout years of compaction and erosion. We asked the contractor for a price to excavate and install a new subgrade, and he fizrnished a price of $34,375.85. After further negotiations and with the City providing the limerock to the site, the cost will be $25,847.29, with $12,417.29 paid to Southeast Land Developers, and $13,430.00 to the limerock vendor. Since this is the only remaining work on this project, it is requested that this be approved as an emergency, as to not delay the contractor. BUDGET: The remaining contingency funds on the project are $3,638.98. In addition, we have $15,000 in account number 001-5002-541-6400 (savings from radios) and $10,000 in account number 130-5002- 541-6300 (remaining monies for sidewalks) to provide for the remaining cost of the Change Order. RECOMMENDATION: Approve Change Order #1, $12,417.20 to Southeast Land Developers, Inc. and authorize staff to purchase limerock for $13,430.00.
